It shouldn't be 5; and barely should have reached 1.
The guy isn't very good, sure to hell not a starter.
This is a bitter pill. This is almost as bad news as losing today. I'm not sure if we can recover from this. The reality of not making 100 pages is tough to take.
Congratulations CornWash! First Game Ever as Chicago Bears Starting Defensive End! What may have gone unnoticed to some of you yesterday was that CornWash was the starting DE opposite Hicks for the first time this season. He earned it. Current grades (via PFF)… Hicks 82.9 CornWash 77.8 Bullard 47.2 Unrein 44.0 I watched CornWash and Bullard closely again yesterday. CornWash did some solid "blue collar" work in the trenches. First quarter (9:05) CW plugged the middle forcing runner outside for 2 yard gain. Then (8;37) CW chases down run to opposite side and makes tackle. Bullard comes in for three plays (at 6:45)….10 yd. run to other side, incomplete pass, and at blocked out of play at 5:27). CW returns for 3rd and 8. Bears get defensive stop. First quarter (0:24) CW plugs his gap, forcing runner inside for no gain. First play of second quarter, CW bull rushes Flowers (6-6, 329) and would have had sack on Manning except Flowers was holding him. This put Giants in 3rd and 16 to set up the defensive stop. Bullard in for four plays at 8:29 and did nothing -- actually got pancaked like Unrein on one running play. CW at 5:55 beat his blocker and forced runner into tackle by Floyd. I like having CW and Floyd working together. CW usually draws the double-team, leaving Floyd with single blocker. At 3:43 CW uses his cross-step move to create space, jump, disrupt pass. With his 39-inch vertical, I would like to see him do more of this to deflect passes or at least force the QB to put extra loft on pass to get over his hands. Third quarter (4;10) CW again plugs gap, forces runner outside for 2 yd. gain. At 3:22, CW again jumps to disrupt pass on 4th and 9. They double-teamed CW a lot in 4th quarter, but he made a nice play at 7:13. He sacrificed his body, throwing himself into Giants blockers on 2nd and 10 to disrupt the run. Overall, CornWash CLEARLY outplayed Bullard again. The question now is whether he will keep the starting job when Unrein comes off the inactives list. And, is that guy I quoted correct when he says the Bears will keep Unrein in 2017 and let CornWash go to free agent? Is that really going to happen after the way CornWash, Unrein, and Bullard have played this season? For me, that would be a fitting end to one of the most dismal Bears seasons I have suffered through in 50 years.
CornWash got 40 snaps (to Bullard's 19), so I would say the coaches are now seeing what is going on, even if some of you guys can't.

I have to admit that CornWash looked a lot better than Bullard yesterday. Bullard looked pretty bad. Real bad.
As long as davidl is around, this thread hits 100 pages for sure.
It all depends on whether CornWash goes free agent or gets a new contract. They should keep CornWash and cut Unrein. He needs to keep outplaying both Unrein and Bullard over the last 5 games to (hopefully) lock-in a new contract.

Whoa Nelly!!!! That's some play charting.
Anyone know of a specific drug we can suggest for this type of OCD? LOLOL

Those are low hurdles. That's like Leno being a better RT then JWebb nation or Cutler being the best Bears QB.
Corny wasn't very good yesterday; Bullard was also bad, which is the only reason Corny got the time he did. Bears need to keep drafting/bringing in FA's until they have legit starting/backup options. If next year Corny takes another step and becomes average then all the better.
