After seeing how the Bears played with Hoyer and now seeing what they looked like with Cutler back what do you think their record would be right now if Cutler was healthy the whole time. I think they would have beat the Colts and Jags to put them at 4-4 half way through the season which would have put them right about where I projected them going into the season.
We would have beaten Indy and Jax for sure and at least been in the GB game and while it's possible I still doubt we'd have won it. But one thing is for sure. The offense would have produced more than 3 points.
Without a dominant defense this team can't win playing Hoyer. His arm isn't a threat to anyone and NFL DCs are smart enough to know that if they take away his run game and don't give up a big play he can dink and dunk between the 20s all night and not win.
Last night a starting caliber NFL QB proved he could pretty well dominate one of the best defenses in the NFL provided he had a decent run game and he had time to throw to his better targets downfield. How many 5 yard passes on 3rd and long did Cutler make last night? If he needed the yardage he threw for it or hit his guys in stride and allowed them a shot at getting it with YAC.
Cutler isn't Aaron Rodger but then maybe Aaron isn't even Aaron these days but if there was any doubt about the difference between a staring caliber NFL QB and a career backup I hope those doubts were dispelled last night.
Zif makes the bigger and better point. There are far more injuries going on then just Cutler. Losing Danny T, Goldman, Mcphee, Houston, Long and Sitton, as well as White and Royal all hurt the Bears in varying ways.
If most of those remain healthy this team is likely a .500 team.
Oh the problem early was way beyond Hoyer /Cutler. They seem to be coming together, but way to late. If we get our guards back it will be interesting. We need Royal or a slot. Meredith > White, that seems to help and Howard being a stud opens up a world of play action pain that was not previously available.

Howard being able to run and open up the play action only happens when there is a threat for deeper passes. That didn't exist with Hoyer which is why we saw it work last night. There's a reason why they call it complementary play. Cutler is a threat to throw it deep and stretch the field with Jeffery so the defense has to respect it. This opens up the run game more for Howard. The run game allows for Cutler to use play action. The ability to do all of that on offense leads to more time of possession and allows the defense to stay fresh for the second half where they have been falling apart.
I honestly thing the addition of Cutler made all the difference. It helps that he played well because we all know he could've made some huge mistakes and lost but he at least gives the team a better chance. He makes the team better as a whole.

We really need Callahan and Porter back healthy after the week. I'm pretty worried about what the Winston and Evans show does when we visit Tampa Bay.
I'd like to hear something about Fuller too. I was sure we would see him back around now - but still not even a word. I assume his injury must be worse than reported.
