And I'm not trying to say Green isn't elite...he very clearly is. What I am saying is that Alshon is very, very good and could be borderline elite(thats factoring a host of things you'll never take into consideration). The salary cap is going up. Teams put a premium on receivers that possess the skills that Alshon has, there are a host of teams with ample salary cap room...Alshon is going to get PAID whether it be by us or by someone else. Alshon is one of the best players the Bears have, they have nobody on the roster they can replace him with, there is nobody available in free agency this off season that is even remotely close in talent. I would prefer they use the AMPLE salary cap space they have to retain one of the best players on the team instead of letting yet again another one of our talented players to go to another team to prosper. None of what I just said can be disputed.

Nope. No way. Alshon didn't practice with the team during OTA's. That makes him a horrible teammate and an injury risk. Look at how healthy the rest of the team that stayed for OTA's are. This team is at the pinnicle of health.

I rest my case. Shame on AJ for skipping OTA's.

OMG and can you see how far behind he is compared to the rest of the team? Not showing up to OTA's made him forget the entire route tree and playbook. LOL at all the he's working on his own so he's going to likely be injured again; dude might be one of the healthiest players on the team right now.

Yep. But I'm also not putting much stock in any rumor involving his trade or any other player for that matter. As many as we have out we should be adding to the roster not subtracting from it.

Kevin White has shown he's nowhere near ready to even start as a #2 let alone a #1 WR and on top of that he can't stay healthy. Cam Meredith has talent but not as a #1 guy. So what sense would it make to trade our #1 WR? None, because he's not easily replaced.

All Pace can do now is to sort through the chaff and find those players who are producing even in this swamp of Fox's and move on with them as his core to continue to build around. AJ is one of those players. You don't trade players like that you go out and get more of them.

1. If Alshon has turned down ever offer and has the desire to leave, I'm OK with trading him
2. Heard a rumor of AJ for a mid round pick... if this is true, I lose all faith in Pace until proven otherwise again. You don't trade Jeffery for a mid round pick. Tag him again if needed. I wouldn't mind with Cutler going away and getting replaced by a rookie.

The rumor of Jeffery being traded for a 4th round pick was not true. It's already been admitted to be made up but there are still talks of him getting traded in general.

Here's something that I hope a lot of Bear's fans think of, Jeffery is one of the very few Bear's draft picks that is still on the team and is very good. Do you really want to let another good, drafted player go? If so, I do not want to hear another person complain about how this team has let go of all of their good players.

Sometimes you have to pay a lot for a player because if you don't you'll never have a team with multiple stud players. You can't rely on first to third year players on their rookie contracts being your best players each year. It's just not realistic.

I'm a very simple fan, in that I believe the Bears should be trying to find new talent while stockpiling existing talent.

If they had to overpay AJ to keep him, so be it. They have the cap room and no one else to pay. They should have found a way to keep Bennett, but he seems like he can be an enormous pain in the ass so I can understand why they had to move him.

I don't get the same PITA feeling from AJ. Sure, he can whine a bit about scoring touchdowns and the eternal loneliness a man in his 20's with a guaranteed 15 million dollar contract can feel in the city of Chicago, but he is not Bennett.

The front office should just pay him and try to add talent, not redraft the position again and hope Kevin White can grow a new healthy lower leg.

-submit to his side of the contract talks, which doesn't seem to be happening.
-tag him again.
-not tag or sign him and let him hit the market.

-trade him now

My bigger questions are.
-Is Aj forcing this trade talk
-Are pace and Fox the ones that want to possibly trade him
or
-is this all just Philly trying to get AJ

Or is it a writer somewhere talking to the assistant to the assistant GM in Philly and asking...Wouldn't you guys like to add a WR like Smith or Jeffery? And the assistant answers "Hell ya!"

This then turns into..Philly is interested in adding Jeffery at the trade deadline.

Under Angelo's watch the talent became mediocre. Then on Emery's watch the roster talent got drained even more. Now under Pace I'm trying to believe he knows what he's doing. But I do wonder.

One other thing. People get upset if you mention the fact that we were a 10-win team when Lovie Smith was let go. I was 100% all-in on that move because I did believe that the team was not going to the final level under Lovie Smith (to not just "get" to a super bowl but actually win one). And just because he was the 3rd winningest Bears coach in the history of the franchise didn't make him a great coach. I believe that. But we did a lot of winning and I enjoyed watching us win division championships, the conference champions & the super bowl appearance (even though we crapped the bed when we got there).

I wanted a coach who could do better than that.

But I'll be honest here. I miss seeing us win games like we did back then. Watching the team win 10 games in a season was fun... at least better than this 1-win thing we got going right now. This is like getting a sharp stick in the eye on game day now.

I keep hoping "next year" will be better (I've been saying that since Lovie left). But "next year" is just another sharp stick in the eye so far. It is getting old.

I'm also a "very simple fan" in that I'd like to, you know, actually win games. I know. That's a shocking wish for a fan

Remember when Kansas City was a perennial playoff team under Schottenheimer? They always went to the playoffs but never further. Then they dumped him and missed the playoffs forever afterwards.

I'm sure the fans thought it was the right move, but they probably missed being relevant in the playoffs for the next 10+ years.

We were not going to win the Superbowl if Lovie had stayed, but I do miss the days when the defense was a fantasy football powerhouse and the Bears were relevant.
