I could care less if AJ is elite or "almost" elite, but he's good and a threat. But the cause of this rumor is where my questions are. Trade talks for a player of AJ's status on a team in the condition the Bears are in, raises serious questions in my mind.
What direction have the contract talks gone to put AJ's name "out there" so to say...
OK so i decided to get really high watching Lester's 2nd inning...mainly so i can at least laugh and smile during this crap so far....but....
Would it be completely crazy to think that maybe after playing with Hoyer at Qb and having some plays not hit in favor of AJ, he has "recently" expressed that he will hold out if Jay isn't back next year?
I mean he does have a bit of leverage considering all of the issues on the team right now, injuries included. Jeffery can force a second tag, giving himself top $$$ for 2017 or get the top $$$ by the bidding war he would be in if he hit the market.
I mean this guys just a bum...we should get rid of him...can't make any good plays....just jump balls and shit:
I never said he was a bum.
I just don't believe he's elite. Not on the level of Green and Jones.
I went on for the record to say sign him for less than top 5 or use some of Cutler's free cap to help pay for him. ( If released )
I want this team to be competitive. We just got out of one bad contract no reason to have another one unless we have the cap space to do it.
You say he's not elite but only compare him to two guys, one of who is arguably the best in the game who plays in a competent offesnse with a better than decent QB...actually thats a good description for both those guys. I've got news for you...he's probably getting top 5 money from us or someone. And here's some more news for you, by the next year that contract will be top 10 or so, by year 3 it will be 15 to 20. Thats how contracts work. Why you don't get this is beyond me. We are FLUSH with cash and cap space...FLUSH! There is no other receiver coming in free agency who can sniff Alshon's jock! Now...this is a simple economics question...when you have a product on the market far superior to any of it's competition....what is the price of that product usually? Thats the predicament the Bears find themselves in. They could have avoided it, and now they'll pay because of it.

or...they can trade him.
He'll either get tagged again for a very big number or hit the free agent market and get a big number....there's nothing to hold out for in the latter scenario...he's a free agent.
It will take a little bit more in one category than the current stats for him to get a top 3 receiver contract. He has 32 catches for 520 yards which would average out 80 catches for about 1100 yards. But the big glaring factor is 0 TD's. A lot of that is on Hoyer and the Log for maybe not targeting him but I am not sure if he may want to stay here if he is not targeted as the number one.
If it is draft picks, one would think at least their 1st round and more...guess it depends on how AJ's value is seen by other teams.
Does the franchise tag come into affect at all with a trade right now? Wasn't there a thing where a team had to give up their next two first round picks for a franchised player?
No. He would be treated as a player with a one year fully guaranteed deal. A franchise tagged player is still a free agent, just like someone with a transition tag. But the team signing the franchise tagged player away would have to surrender two first round picks. Whereas signing a transition tagged player just requires the original team be allowed to match the deal and keep the player.
Once the player is "slapped" with the franchise tag, the team is protected from losing the player without the signing team surrendering picks. Now, the player still has to agree to sign it and play for the year. If they don't, they can't play anywhere else and wind up losing the year. Which is why you always see the player signing the tag.
Are you really trying to compare College Football to NFL? You're reaching hard with that comparison.
I thought we couldn't use that Cowboys game? Remember McCown was facing a terrible defense. So does that make Jeffery great and McCown great or not? You can't have it both ways.
I mean come on...
No what's elite about AJ Green is he has 1,000+ stats every single season he's been in the NFL. Might not be huge numbers like Jones but he has them. He is a guy who can make plays like that video.
LMAO!!!!!!!! I'm reaching? You can either make the catch or you can't. The ball wasn't batted to him...he MADE the catch. Further, while the cowboys defense may have been terrible it doesn't change the fact that he made the catch with guys...plural...DRAPED all over him in the very corner of the end zone. It was an amazing catch regardless. Just take the L on this one. You're wrong...it's ok. I just showed 3 videos of Alshon making sick plays...apparently no factor. What is this reality you live in? I want to take a trip there.
And I'm not trying to say Green isn't elite...he very clearly is. What I am saying is that Alshon is very, very good and could be borderline elite(thats factoring a host of things you'll never take into consideration). The salary cap is going up. Teams put a premium on receivers that possess the skills that Alshon has, there are a host of teams with ample salary cap room...Alshon is going to get PAID whether it be by us or by someone else. Alshon is one of the best players the Bears have, they have nobody on the roster they can replace him with, there is nobody available in free agency this off season that is even remotely close in talent. I would prefer they use the AMPLE salary cap space they have to retain one of the best players on the team instead of letting yet again another one of our talented players to go to another team to prosper. None of what I just said can be disputed.
Nope. No way. Alshon didn't practice with the team during OTA's. That makes him a horrible teammate and an injury risk. Look at how healthy the rest of the team that stayed for OTA's are. This team is at the pinnicle of health.

It's an either or decision.
I can understand that getting a 1st+ for him is good and that we'd save lots of Cap Space. I can understand he is no Top5 WR (Top10 for me and it's Close to the Top5) but wants to get paid as such. Now is the time to value him. Is it the Cap Space and pick that you want or is it AJ slightly overpaid, but nothing that will hurt you.
I think the AJ contract is worth more. Open a hole to fill another is not how we should operate. We have enough crap picks to at least allow us to trade up. Keep AJ, give him a new Coach that is up to date and a QB that knows what he is doing.
