Not in the least. Ski lost passion for the board a long time ago... even before the arrival of the asses.
It's too bad someone wasn't able and willing to take over ownership of the board from him. I was hoping somebody would take it on. I understand and can appreciate Ski's life changing. Our life situations do change over the years, so I can understand Ski wanting to move on with his life to other things. It sounds like he was recently retired. I hope he has a great retirement.
We have the luxury of coming and going on messageboards any time we want. Zero responsibility. Zero commitment required. To actually be responsible for a board would be quite a commitment if you really tried to do it right.
He retired about 18 months ago. He's busy as hell, but he is loving life. No depression or any such shit like that.
And yes... the commitment required if you want to do it right is huge, especially in time. Time is one thing there simply isn't enough of when your lifestyle changes to focusing on things that really matter such as family, self-improvement, and doing those things that a 25+ year Navy career gets in the way of.
How can someone love a team so much that they go so far as to create a web site devoted to that team only to, years later, say they now pretty much hate said team and that they are rooting for someone else? Wtf? I call BS

He started talking about the lack of passion for the Bears around 15 months, or so, ago. Couple that with his extremely busy life, after retiring from the USN, and he simply didn't have passion OR time. After the USN he was able to focus more on the family, higher education, and simply do those things that are so very difficult to do when active duty and deployed. This kept him from being able to dedicate any time towards board improvements (snap-in's, template's, etc.). The hosting fee's weren't an issue at all (trust me on this one), and neither was the influx of the asses (this one as well). So... after working all day, attending college half the night, etc., he got on the board and it was so.damn.serious. because us moderators and administrators were doing our thing, it just... tired him out. He has a very thick skin (as pretty much all of us Navy folk do), and he couldn't understand how wimpy some of the board was and decided that he would open it up (and told the mods to lighten up) in a more "relaxed" atmosphere. But the result of that relaxation has absolutely nothing to do with the closing of DBS. He simply tired of the whole thing. Creating a new board, one for the Jag's, would be something interesting, fun, and creative, so that is likely what he will do.
Life's too short to not be doing what you prefer to do and I grant him that along with my gratitude and respect for his naval service. But the idea to change the moderation standards that brought many of his best members there to begin with without so much as a "by your leave", that I don't agree with.
I also would not classify any here as being wimps who can't hand it out as well or better than we can take it but there were TOS we all agreed to when we became members. You reminded me of those on several occasions as I recall despite knowing them quite well because I helped to write them. What's even more ironic is when last year I decided to face a few of them down and play by their rules Jimmors jumped in and began deleting or censoring my posts and in the end you and Rick backed him up!!!
If one of us was being a wimp it sure the hell wasn't me because I can stand toe to toe with any of them and beat them at their own game IF allowed to do it and I chose to do just that but you guys prevented it. You let the idiots run wild but you block the long time member whose fighting back against that. WTF kind of moderation do you call that?
So what you ended up with is some trying to walk the line and play by the rules as best they could and keep the peace while others walked in and just pissed on the floor and shit on the sofa because it's easy to be a prick on the internet.
IMHO THAT was not OK and apparently others agree with me which is why they came here for some peace and to talk football without the daily ration of bullshit from trolls.
I don't know how those who can't stand trolling is "wimpy". I got harass by these members daily there. With there constant tagging me, disliking everyone of my post, to even changing their name and profile picture to mine.
If you guys paid attention in the Bears forum section the fellow trolls did nothing but derail topics. These same trolls get ban and allowed to come back multiple times as well. So there is no real punishment for their action. I know Grimson broke the no second account rule but was still allowed to post.
Before the forum shut down we had HeHateMe and his fellow group change their names to other members to try to create chaos and havoc among others.
If Ric wants to create a Jags forum more power too him. I just hope he's ready for even more disappointment than he has with the Bears.
I wonder if he'll blame the political views and crime rate as yet another reason he abandons his new forum?

Don't think it's wimpy to want to talk Bears on a Bears site, and not deal w/bully's moron's and jackasses. It was the reason DBS was around and CCS was around. CCS is a trainwreck where the chances of getting one good thread is like winning the lottery. DBS was different and it was what the posters wanted. Serious? are you kidding me, BiH, Jackie were serious? JABF and I were serious(me ya probably stfu). There is a difference between relaxed and being a douche. Grim/HHM and crew were douches.
I don't blame him for losing energy or passion, or not having time. More power to him in whatever he wants to do next. I have nothing against Ski, great guy, if he doesn't like something no reason to put any time into it. But don't put the blame on the customers for wanting what he created.

It is sad to see it go. I followed from the Bears website forum. I never posted anything on the old Bears official forum but did read it. After it was closed down I searched for another site to get info and see like minded folk talk about Da Bears and was very happy to find DBS. Soooo glad ya'll started this up and now we know it was perfect timing so again kudos brothers!!!

Since when is Ric a Jags fan? ;-)
Since he hates Ill politics and crime in Chicago, retiring in Jacksonville. Board shut down when Jags losing 28-0 and someone told him Jags will probably be moved to London. If the first two are true, why he ever was a Bears fan , well , got me. Crime and corrupt politics have been here since I was born ( Old I am). The rest don't now. I like other teams, why can't he. Others will probably have a better answer about Jags. BUT that's what I call Ill politicians JAGS
I guess it just got to be , too.damn. serious ... if by 'serious' you mean just straight-up honest talk about the Bears ( which was the whole reason for the board in the 1st. fkn. place. ) .
Or , maybe the whole world is supposed to be like the worthless TWATS at something like TMZ .
Yeah that's the ticket .
Let's be like all the other self-important , fos ( while trying to be funny ... but aren't )twerpy , too cool for school , jackoffs like those who inhabit insipid places like that .
There's only 1 problem though - most people aren't really actually like those idiots . Most people actually want real substance ( instead of constant sophmoric idiocity ) . Guess he 'threw in ' with the wrong crowd ... and you'd think that someone as old and wise wouldn't be that stupid . A Yoda he ain't .
