It's a shame yes (been there since about '08) but at the same time it was kinda deserved toward the end. I don't pretend to know the mod/admin reasons why but the "policing" on that board fell off a cliff starting last season.
It took way way too long to ban dickhead posters and then all often they were reinstated later or just weaseled their way back in under new screen-names. I think we all got fed up with it.
That's what happens with piss poor moderating. I don't know if the moderates over there didn't care, enjoy seeing people spam the forum, or didn't bother showing up. I have never seen so many warnings done by a member than I have with Grimson. I've seen this member break pretty much every rule and still allowed back in.
Moderation played a big part of this. The more they got away with the more they kept pushing until half the board left. Now he and his crew pretend that we left because we didn't want to hear anything bad about the Bears. Not because of the spam he and his CCS friends done.
Sociopath abusers will ALWAYS blame their victims. So that's to be expected from that bunch.
After 2 weeks, Grimson has done enough for a lifelong ban... just think about that.
Will be interesting to see what will happen with DaBears. I enjoyed my time there for the most part. Glad to have found a new home here.
I really don't know what is going on there, but I remember that while I was there Grimson and HEHATEME (I wonder why he picked that name) came in like they owned the place and nothing was done. I remember that Grimson was banned and then I thought to myself.... one more to go, but that never happened and then they let Grimson back in also.
So not sure if you are talking about that first ban (which turned out to be much less than lifetime) or he got banned again. It's like that car wreck that does not affect you but you keep looking at.
If no one else has answered this I will. It was the name former XFL'er Rod Smart had on the back of his jersey. Kinda ironic since HHM was on the biggest haters around and yet smart did it to denounce haters which is just one more example of HHM level of intellect.
Jim Weber runs LostLettermen.com, devoted to keeping tabs on former players and other bits of nostalgia. Today he catches up with former XFL star and Carolina Panther Rod Smart.
Rod Smart knows a thing or two about making a name for himself.
He was the XFL player that became a cultural phenomenon in 2001 by having the words “He Hate Me” plastered on the back of his uniform to denounce haters everywhere, bringing him instant fame for his self-promotional genius. Brash personalities apparently run in the family; his cousin just so happens to be former Philadelphia Eagle Freddie Mitchell, the self-proclaimed “People’s Champ.”
Now, nearly a decade later, Smart is trying to get noticed in his first passion: acting. That includes the male lead role in an independent film released earlier this year called “Don’t Blame The Lettuce” and other gigs from his home base in Charlotte, N.C., while he plots his jump to Hollywood.
“I want to build my resume so when I do go out there, I have a sword and shield to fight with, instead of jumping into the fire without any armor,” said the always-witty Smart.

Silly me. And i thought it was just because people hated him.
I will be shutting this place down soon. Honestly I'm not sure why I haven't pulled the plug already.
I have offered it up to various members, but there wasn't anyone in a position to take it over.
Here's why I don't want this place. Has NOTHING to do with members here. I still stand by my decision to have it more open (less rules). I have no ties to Chicago. I can't imagine wanting to go there given the shit hole that place has become. The violence, the political agenda etc. So I have decided to change my loyalty to the closest team near me. That is Jacksonville. So there isn't some band wagon thing going on. I built my retirement house last year. I plan on living here until I die. So I'm not leaving.
I deleted justanotherbearsfan99's account. He frankly pissed me off. He was one person I offered the site to, or the other group that left. A member recently posted the exact private message I sent him (and only him). The person he sent it to, was from yet a different site (owner).
There have been members poaching here and I guess people think I'm an idiot. I have removed their ability to private message others.
So there it's out. I will not fund this place using my own money any longer. I tried to keep this place alive by handing it to others.
Maybe I'll start up a Jaguars message board. Who knows. I will say this, if I see any mass poaching of members, I will start deleting accounts.
Shit I may just nuke the site at that point. Good luck. Illinois is a democratic nightmare. Keep voting democratic (and blame the failures on the republicans).
OK Rick now I'm gonna respond to you on this.
Once upon a time you weren't paying for it all out of your own pocket. There were those of us who did contribute to the costs. A year ago I told you that it was unfair for some of us to help sponsor the site when you were no longer allowed it to be moderated the way it was done when I helped you get the place going in 2004 and became a moderator myself along with a number of other old timers who were seldom posting anymore either.
I traded several emails with you and with Loki last fall about the problems that were developing by allowing some of the newer members to come on board and begin trolling the site from day one. You even agreed with me that they were trolling. I said then that I would no longer support the site with my time or my money as long as it was being operated that way and I left. I also warned you that what has happened now would eventually happen if you insisted on keeping it open doing things your way.
Well it did happen didn't it and not because we poached member as much as your decisions about how to operate your site drove members away starting with me last year around this time. Rick you turned your back on the very people who helped build that site up into what it was and instead sided with those who wanted nothing more than to tear it down. So I won't thank you for your hard work sponsoring DBS because I got no thanks or cooperation from you for simply trying to keep as it was when you and I and about 20-25 others created it to be back in 2004. Then the objective was to get away from the fools you let in who were just like those who took down the CBMB. Do you recall that? In your dislike for the Bears you basically sabotaged your own site and showed zero regard for those who supported you in it for twelve years. Thank you very little.
So now you come to those of us who would gladly have taken the site over for you a year ago before it was virtually destroyed by the trolls you encouraged to join and ruin it for the better members. To me that's a whole lot like driving up in a busted ass piece of shit car that's ready for the boneyard and saying here I'm done with it now so you all can have it if you like. 'Fraid not brother. Why would we want it when what we were able to create here was nothing more than we asked for you to do in the first place. You refused and therefore we have to do the same.
So enjoy Florida and your retirement. You've served your country well and you've earned that.
Yeah. Looks like Rick just pulled the plug on the site. Wow.
On a positive note, I wonder if we will get some of the better posters left from that board? I hope so.
With the board gone, do we know who the good ones are that were still stuck there? Or have any way to contact them? Or do we have a free-to-view access board that allows any random person to request entrance here? And if so, how can we be sure to identify HHM and the grim crew when they try to steal names again?
You can leave that up to the staff shark. A couple of them hit the first day Alex began the site before we were fully up to speed on our admission procedures. To the best of our knowledge it hasn't happened since and if one of them did get approval in error they'd last less than a day once they began posting nonsense. Their posting habits gives them away.
its over and done, now we will need help here, more then ever. the heat is on
This is very true. I think that many will slip through. It's just the nature of things. They will be looking for a place to go to. Have requests have increased?
A few but nothing we can't handle so far. I realize they have no sense but I'll say it anyway that it makes no sense for them to attempt to register since those names who aren't well known to us get far more than a thorough once over and we can also ban by IP so unless they're making attempts from different locations and always post from that location they won't easily slip through the grid.
And IF they do they won't last so other than the momentary nuisance they may create it won't last for more than a few hours until we send them packing. If someone spots a problem while we're not online just send us a PM. We'll deal with it.
I don't want to offend any Republicans here but I've always thought die hard Republicans were all a little touched in the head. At least all of the ones I know. Of course I know a few die hard Democrats that are bit touched also. I don't think it's healthy at all to be that attached to one side or the other. Politics suck!
Yeah they do and all the more reason for NOT having a forum here that's open to discuss them. Past experience would indicate that the attitudes expressed there will somehow find a way into the mainstream forums eventually and then it does become a moderation nightmare.
Those who fail to observe history are doomed to repeat it.
haha, ok my turn, move to Croatia guys, regardless of what they say (sometimes) on TV, waaay less crime, very nice weather, especially here on the coast
Got some room in your basement. That's where I feel most at home.
Just me, my laptop, 10 guitars, 2 basses, 6 amplifiers, assorted effects pedals, microphones and a small PA. I'll keep the volume down after 10:00 PM I promise.
