Because this years QBs ain't nothing special to waste a top 10 pick on.
This is said every year; hell it was said this year....reality is it's never pre determined. Wentz has been an absolute best player available pick, but wasn't seen as that, but he was. Winston/Marriota were both seen as high potential projects worth taking high, they've been far better then that.
And remember when Fowler and Beasley were must have's? What have they done? Top 10 pass rushers can bust out just as easily as any other position. Do I even need to bring up Clowney? Who just now seems like he might be coming into his own, 3 years later?
How much of that success from Wentz is do to the Eagles though?
They have a good O-line, they have a great defense. You telling me that Wentz would be just as good if he went to the Browns instead?
Let's be honest for a second. Who will develop our QB. Fox, Loggains, and CO are not that good. It would be the Lovie Smith era all over again. Unless we're getting rid of these guys next season are you willing to corrupt our QB again?
Clowney's play isn't something into question. His body is. I don't know how you can compare the two.

I have actually wondered and worried about the same thing. I am not sold we know how to develop a QB, nor that we even have the people on board that know what to look for in picking a good QB.
How much of the success is do to Brady, or Manning, or Brees or Big Ben or Romo or whoever. The QB CAN make the OL look better or worse by their pocket presence and ability to get rid of the ball quickly. The OL might be the difference, but it won't stop a qb from turning the ball over, and it won't stop him from throwing a poorly timed/aimed pass.

I don't care who will work with the QB of the future. Ideally, we have a vet like Hoyer paired with the Rookie. I'd give a roster spot to a guy like McCown as 3rd QB just to have a guy working with the future QB of the Franchise. That's how we should do it.
In a game in which the Bears defense collected five sacks for just the fifth time since the end of the Lovie Smith era, you'd figure the pass defense was pretty good.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case Sunday in a 29-23 loss to the Colts in Indianapolis. The defense did a lot of good things. The Colts were limited to 3 of 12 third-down conversions. Before a 13-yard run by Frank Gore in the final minute, the running game was shut down.
It's nice to see the Bears rack up five sacks, and rookie end Jonathan Bullard earned his first with the Colts facing third-and-5 at the Bears' 20-yard line in the third quarter. But just glancing at the box score would lead you to believe Luck was under more duress than he was.
Just reading some quick observations Watson, I like his mobility but if he is a zone-read option QB who can roll out of the pocket and make accurate throws downfield would that be a fit for Log's type of playbook?
Most of the teams that are bad don't really need a Pass rusher. Most need a QB.
We on the other hand need both. Hoyer shown that you can be average and do great in our system. Rated #6 after all but our best Pass Rusher was Young who was in the 50's in rating.
