It's a clicky article, but only 4 pages, worth the read; here's my take and no one should be surprised by it as I've stated it so often.
Wasn't a fan of his hiring, this is a guy that did wanted Claussen as his QB over Newton in Carolina which eventually sent him packing to Den. He's been extremely lucky to get as far as he's gotten and why he's a little over .500 in his winning percentage. His records regularly go from good to bad and back and forth until he hit Den where he got Miller and Manning. It indicates to me that he's likely the beneficiary of easy schedules during his good years and negatively impacted by having to play more talented teams.
A lot will depend upon the talent level. If Pace can feed the coaches enough talent, I figure they should be able to bring the team back to respectability. Fox will need solid coaching on the offense side, and if Loggains isn't good, then Pace needs to get a solid offensive coordinator. Some here expect Fox to be an offensive minded guy as well as defense. Like a lot of coaches, Fox is knowledgeable on one side of the ball - and not both. I'm okay with that. But it does make it mission-critical to get a rock solid OC in place.
Worst case, during Fox's tenure, we may see Fox get the team to the playoffs but not the super bowl, and Pace will need to get a guy to take us to the next level.
Will we need some good luck? I think luck is always a factor with teams, both good and bad luck.
I just want to see the full 16 games played this year, even if it is painful and ugly to watch, and then see the 3rd year of the Pace/Fox era before I make a final judgement (LOL, as if anyone cares what I think). From the very beginning I was thinking the Bears had a brutal rebuilding effort ahead of them that would span 3 or more years. I still feel that way. Some fans were arguing (initially) that Pace didn't even have a rebuilding task here... like he'd just add some players and we'd be winners. Total delusion. Some on the other board even argued when you even tried to refer to it as a rebuilding situation.
So a lot of things need to happen this year and next year. It's not just a "Fox thing" but rather a number of things need to happen - with players acquired, players developed, coaches need to step up, Pace needs to step up, big decisions need to be made. Do we move on from Cutler now? Will Pace bring in a solid OC? Will the young people like Floyd, White, Whitehair and several others improve as much as Pace thought they would?
It's not just about Fox. If only it were that simple.

No it's not ALL about Fox just mostly. Fox has won more often than he's lost ONLY when the talent he possessed both on the field and withing his coaching staff was virtually overwhelming. His two previous OCs are both current NFL HCs. His last QB already has his bust in the HOF made and waiting for him. When he's lacked those kind of edges John Fox has been a .500 HC. That's the bottom line even if there are those who like to pretend otherwise.

Oh for crap sake if you gave any HC enough talent he should be able to do that. Jeezus you and I could win games with a cast of All Pro players. Great coaches create talent out of their players or they scheme well enough to win with those the have. What was it that Bum Phillips said about Don Shula? He could take his'n and beat your'n or take your'n and beat his'n. Who was the ONLY HC to beat that '85 Bears defense and he gored them. That's great coaching and we do not have a great coach.
We fired a HC who went 10-6 the year before and who a couple of years prior to that had just missed getting to his second Super Bowl after losing his starting QB in the NFCC Game. Denver fired a HC because he'd lost 4 or the 7 playoff games he'd taken the team to including getting completely embarrassed in a Super Bowl game scoring just 8 points when he had the #1 offense in the NFL that year. So we replaced Lovie with who? Lovie v2.0?
If this wasn't happening and instead of losing home game left and right in embarrassing fashion and we did magically reach the playoffs and lose who'd get the blame in your book and that of many other Bears fans, Fox or Cutler? We both know the answer to that. Frankly I hope Pace does trade Cutler because then Fox won't have one more scapegoat to blame for his piss poor coaching and lack of preparation.
At least Ric is on the same page as I am with this deal about Fox and those who pay no attention to history are doomed to repeat it.

I just see it as a more complex set of problems and issues. Not predominately a single problem. And I'm not on anyone's side. Or not. Just one fan's opinion FWIW. I may ultimately feel differently about Fox.
Fox is a very average coach, when he has the talent he can succeed, *see lovie smith*. When he doesn't he is lacking. But that is the vast majority of coaches, a talented team makes coaches, HoF qb's make HoF coaches. There are bad coaches, but rarely will a coaching change solve an issue and take a team from losing to winning, it's the ability to draft and find the right qb; and that is where the Bears have failed b/c the talent since the years leading up to the SB has been bad.
Trestman was a bad coach, so were his coordinators, but the talent level was never here for him to succeed.
Any coach can win games with talent around them. We wasted talent around a mediocre coach before. His name was Lovie Smith who is now out of the NFL.
Lovie's problem was that he was to reliant on HIS system, which was at its best w/Riviera as the DC. And it was much like Martz's O where he needed pro bowl talent at every level to make it work, and that is unsustainable. He was also incapable of identifying that talent, which is why when he got a larger say in the draft and FA Angelo went from average to bad; and why his def was terrible in TB when it was all on him.

Just what are these issues? They were reported to be 100% healthy last game although now we seem to find out that wasn't altogether true as far as Cutler was concerned. What's so complex about playing lesser players in place of those who've proven to be better or in place of those who simply aren't progressing?
I'm sorry but it's mostly poor preparation and poor coaching.
Well tonight they play Dallas whose lost 8 home games so I guess we'll see whose the champion of the worst home record in the NFC but I'm out for the duration of the game. I want to watch without any distractions. Maybe we'll get lucky for a change.

I'm not trying to convince anyone I'm right about any of this. Folks here all know I'm wrong at least half the time anyway :-) Seriously, I'm just tossing my 2-cents worth out there on how I see it. Probably only worth 2-cents too.
