"He's Playing against men now"
"I don't think he's in the greatest condition right now"
"His pre-season was choppy and inconsistent"
Well, I don't think anyone would disagree with the latter, but isn't that to be expected from a rookie in his first TC.
As far as his "condition", wasn't it the Bears coaching staff that just wanted him to eat whatever to gain weight?
Yes, he's playing against men now.
Either our DC isn't too enamoured with our first round pick, he's trying to light a fire under his ass, or it's all a smoke screen for the first game. I'm guessing it's the fire.

I really didn't like the pick so I hope this is just growing pains kind of stuff. I can't imagine the pick would have been made without Fangio's input.

It's pretty easy. In the Edit menu on top of the screen, select the Insert Embed icon. It is the button all the way on the right with the </> icon.
In the source menu (see below) select the twitter bird icon:
Vic Fangio says Bears' rookie Leonard Floyd is 'playing against men now' Sep 1, 2016; By: Bryan Perez | 2 hours ago
Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio didn’t mince his words when discussing the team’s first-round pass rusher, Leonard Floyd. In fact, you’d think the veteran wizard of the 3-4 defense was describing an undrafted free agent when talking about Floyd’s play this summer.
Calling the former Georgia Bulldog’s preseason choppy and inconsistent, Fangio was clearly frustrated by Floyd’s unavailability on the practice field. Whether it was an illness or a nagging injury, Floyd seemed to miss time on a near weekly basis.
“It has retarded his development a little bit,” Fangio said of Floyd’s missed time. “I don’t think he’s in the greatest condition right now.”
Fangio stressed that he isn’t upset with Floyd. Instead, he sounded like a coach who’s frustrated that one of his shiny new toys isn’t quite where he needs to be to make an impact on opening day.
“He’s playing against men now,” he said of Floyd, who came into the NFL with questions about whether his size would limit his ability to dominate as an edge rusher in the pros. At 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, Floyd’s lean frame caused some draft evaluators to be concerned with how he’d hold up against — as Fangio put it — the grown men playing left tackle.
It’s possible that Fangio’s comments today were more about motivating Floyd on the eve of his first NFL game than really taking a shot at his less-than-impressive preseason.
Floyd is listed as a second-team outside linebacker behind Lamarr Houston on the Bears’ initial depth chart for the 2016 regular season.
The No. 9 pick of the 2016 NFL draft can silence the critics — including his defensive coordinator — by wrangling Brock Osweiler to the ground a time or two on September 11.
Last year Shea was all the DC ever wanted. This is a coach doing his thing, motivating his guy and getting him ready.
I imagine it is which is why Fangio is reminding him to stop behaving like he's still at the U of Georgia or down home in some dirt poor ramshackle town in Georgia and start behaving like a highly paid pro football player. This is "nice boy" who needs to learn quickly that "nice" is not what NFL OLBs are about.
This kid got babied more in camp and preseason than AJ did last year and no one complained 'til now. When you take a kid like this as a top ten pick you expect him to come in and make an impact and he's done very little to show he even deserves many snap ahead of at least three or four others including Acho and Jones.
I'll be honest. I didn't like the idea of the pick at all before we made and liked it even less when we traded up to get him. These SEC Conference "tweener" types who are great college players always seem to disappoint greatly in the pros. We keep getting fed great things about his physical attributes but I've seen a kid whose been outplayed by Jonathan Bullard, a 3rd round DL pick, and all of the OLBs either for that matter.
I understand that he's a bit of a project but hopefully not the kind you have to build from the ground up and I also hope he can actually play the position he was drafted to play because I've heard some of the same uncertainty expressed about where to play him that we did with Shea McClellin our last undersized college whiz kid. We can't afford another swing and a miss like him.
I think this is how Fangio thinks Floyd will be motivated. With Shea he seemed to try to praise and talk him up to the media because he needed confidence. Floyd might need some anger to push him.
