After watching Whitehair play C in the 2nd preseason game, there is no way he would start at that spot initially. If Sitton signs as a guardn then Whitehair will be pushed to the 2nd team

I thought Sitton could play the C position?
He can, I was just referring to comments about him slotting into the LG position and moving Whitehair over. I dont think that particular scenario would work out, being that Whitehair is not an NFL caliber C at this point
The Slauson release was outright boneheaded move. I don't expect him to get Sitton because it would validate his bone headed move. But, I'm hoping he puts his ego aside and does the right thing for the team by making it better. Like they always espouse "if there's a better guy out there that can make the team better we'll get him." Well here's your opportunity, but I always think that is more of a lip service quote like saying "we have to play hard all 60 minutes."
The Chicago Bears are the first team veteran guard Josh Sitton will visit with per Adam Schefter:
Adam Schefter @adamschefter 18m18 minutes ago Looks like former Packers' Pro Bowl G Josh Sitton's first visit will be to...division-rival Chicago Bears, per sources. Saints could follow
Regarding the 'boneheadedness' of Pace's release of Slauson, most on the board feel strongly it was the wrong move. It was Pace's move to make though. Pace with input from the coaching staff did not feel that Slauson was a good fit for their shift into a zone blocking scheme. His movement skills and ability to block in space were limited which would affect how The Log could run his offense. At the time of his release, Pace had veteran Manny Ramirez and Hroniss Grasu on the roster. I think in hindsight the move seems boneheaded at the time the move was frustrating BUT it was clear a plan was in place.
With that said, I don't think Pace will have any issues bringing in and signing Sitton if he can ink him to a good deal. One of the issues will be the recent signing of Kyle Long for 10 million a year. Pace basically set a negotiation point for Sitton and his agent as both Long and Sitton are 3x Pro-Bowl guards. Might be hard to ink him to a deal though the fact they are bringing him in AND the fact he came here first bodes well for the team.
I so badly want to see us land him--would strengthen us on the OL where we are thin while weakening the Packers at the same time. Talk about a double-dip!
I just don't want to get my hopes up too high yet. Sitton is gonna want a substantial contract that's multi-year. He's gonna want to START. He's not going anywhere on a vet min 1 yr deal to sit on the bench and wait for injury. To get him Pace is going to have to offer him either the LG job or the C job. If its LG, then either Whitehair moves to C (seems unlikely a week before opening day) or gets demoted to the bench with Larsen/Edison at C. If Pace offers him C, then Grasu will be back next season and is the heir apparent there.
What I'm saying is that the Bears have young draft picks (2nd & 3rd) already penciled in to play those positions with newly-extended Kyle Long at RG. I just don't see where Sitton fits in beyond this season and you gotta figure he's looking for a multi-year situation. That's why I'm afraid he is going pass on coming here.

Instead of focusing on the reason not to come to Chicago let's instead focus on Reasons to come to Chicago:
Money: The Bears have a lot of it and have a need on the line and a rabid fan base that wants to see it resolved.
Proximity: Sitton's lived near GB for his entire professional career, his home and family and community is there. Chicago is the closest NFL city to GB.
Starting Role: Sitton could start at center or guard allowing a rookie to develop and Larsen to be the swing guard
Scheme: He's familiar with the zone-blocking scheme has talent there and is excellent in pass protection (one of the best PP guards in the NFL)
What we do have going in our favour is the fact that we have so much cap space while the Saints have under 2 million. Not sure I can see the Saints squeezing him in there

That last point could be the one that puts us over the top

The Log may be downgraded to the Stump if he does not land Sitton. Sorry, but Slauson wasa damned good C and I think he would have gotten better. The dude did it out of the clear blue and was good. I think maybe letting him get more reps with blocking in space might have been a better path, but no one asked me (yeah, I'm still kind of surprised too)

I'm with ya, Bell. I want to see this happen, believe me! Ideal in my mind is Sitton at C, pushing Larsen back to swing C/G where he belongs.
