I like what we got (if Trub becomes solid), but to me Thomas + Kizer + 3rd pick sounds better than Trub + Shaheen at the moment
I say this as someone who wanted Thomas too. If Pace was gonna "fill the hole" at QB, I understand why he wanted to do it this year. None of us want to be picking top-3 again for a long, long time. And I'm glad he got the highest ceiling QB in this draft. Lots of reports I read say Trub is a better prospect than Goff & Wentz were last year. They were selected 1-2 and their teams both give up way way more to move up for them. Yeah, its hard to swallow right now because it's a delayed gratification thing. No kid wants to be told on christmas morning that he can't play with his new toys for a year.
As for Kizer, I wanted no part of that guy. He fell in this draft and fell hard. For a guy who not that long ago was considered the best QB prospect and a top-5 pick, to fall all the way to the bottom 2nd and be passed on twice by several QB-needy teams says a lot. When you consider that QBs routinely get over-drafted because of the position, the market valued him as a 3rd-4th round talent.
All the fans that are carping right now about Trubisky are the same people who would have been calling for Pace's scalp if he didn't get a viable QB this draft the moment Glennon throws his first interception this coming September.
Rookie years can be really tough on NFL QBs. In Payton Manning's first year he threw more ints (28) than TDs (26) and had a 4.9% int percentage (known technically as sucking) was actually worse than Cutler's 2009 season. I totally expect our fellow Bear fans to be total ignorant tools with Trubisky's development so I hope he has a thick skin.
