Good thing it's just a one-year contract. If he sucks, we can cut him before week 1. At this point I'm not even sure if he's gonna make it to the final roster.
Bears signed NT John Jenkins, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year contract.
Jenkins was expected to meet with the Colts after his visit with the Bears but saw everything he needed to see in Chicago. The 27-year-old fared poorly over 217 snaps for the Seahawks and Saints last season. Mar 17 - 12:39 PM
Here's the info from his release from the Saints:

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints parted ways with another high draft pick who never fully materialized.
They released nose tackle John Jenkins, a third-round pick out of Georgia in 2013, who started a total of 22 games but lost his starting job this summer to Tyeler Davison.
Jenkins, 27, apparently became even more expendable after first-round draft choice Sheldon Rankins was activated from injured reserve Sunday. Jenkins was a healthy inactive for Sunday’s 41-23 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Defensive tackle John Jenkins, a third-round pick in 2013, recorded 1.5 sacks in his three-plus seasons with the Saints. Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire
Jenkins (6-foot-3, 259 pounds) had a promising rookie year, highlighted by a sack in New Orleans’ playoff loss at Seattle that season. But he never really took the next step.
Jenkins had a total of 110 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble in three-plus seasons, plus the playoff sack.
He had a total of 10 tackles this season in seven games. He started one game when Davison was injured but averaged less than 20 snaps per game in the others.
Kinda glad it was you who posted this so I could add my comments.
Yes we do badly need a true wide body NT to back Goldman and give him some rest. But why did we sign Jenkins and not pursue Dontari Poe whose a far better player? Poe agreed to a one year deal with the Dirty Birds for $8 mil which is only $1 mil more than the one year deal we gave to Amakumura.
He's 26 years, been a two time Pro Bowler, a one time 2nd team All Pro, so it would seem to me that this is a guy who would be square in the middle of Pace's radar. So why Jenkins and not Poe especially since at 360lbs it would seem to me we're getting a guy whose ballooned to about 20lbs over his ideal playing weight which my be why he did poorly in Seattle.
Maybe we tried and he rejected us too and if that's the case it would be just one more log on the fire of a house that seems to be rapidly burning down. Or it may not be the case and Pace just felt that $8 mil was too much for a guy who also has an injury issue yet that hasn't stopped him from signing guys like Poe on the same kind of one year prove it deals before.
I don't expect answers but I'm not gonna stop asking questions just because I don't get them. LOL
Hopefully the way in which he doesn't remind me of Goldman is in his health.
Belliott, Goldman played 15 games his rookie year and got hurt last year. There's really not enough detail to say Goldman is a health risk or not.
This isn't a Kevin White situation.
IIRC, Goldman got hurt last year (ankle) when he was rolled up on a scrum. It might have been Kyle Long that did it. Point is that's not a Fuller 2016 or Jeffery 2015 situation. You can't fault a player for being hurt after another huge man falls on his ankle. It's a little different when someone is repeatedly pulling muscles in practice or misses a whole season from a knee scope.
It sounds like Jenkins has been a real disappointment. I'm glad we only gave him a 1 year deal. Maybe he's fine as a backup.

The frustrating thing for all of us on all of the roster moves, including the upcoming draft, is that we have to wait to see the regular season games to see the outcome. I suspect some of the Pace moves will be good and some bad. The wait is a killer. It is killing me just waiting to see the draft results.

Hey Soul, Poe's play had fallen off. He's a great run stuffer with average pass rush. That's significantly better than Jenkins BUT i like the bears to draft DL help as the class is deep.

Thanks for the comeback tragic.
I did read a piece about why KC would have let him go and both his injury and his fallen production were listed along with KC simply needing to shed some higher priced guys in order to keep Berry. So I would agree that he's not playing as well as he did a couple years ago and got less from Atlanta than we was looking to get from KC.
But I also pointed out that hasn't prevented Pace from taking some fliers on a few others who were coming off injuries or down seasons so it's tough to see that as being the only reason. If I take that out and we assume he didn't just reject playing here altogether then I would see it as having come down to the money again.
I'll add here that our biggest problem defensively has been run defense which has tended to suck even more without Goldman and an undersized Will Sutton playing NT. Since run defense is Poe strong point maybe he actually does fit the need much better than Sutton who is more of a penetrator and rusher than a two gap run stuffer.
Maybe $8 mil is too high for non-starter but if the guy is a part of the rotation maybe not or if Goldman still struggles with injuries well then he is a starter. A few years ago this kind of money for a rotational player would have been obscene. Only top starters made that much. Backups made maybe 1/2 to 2/3rd of that.
But now those same starters are getting $12 mil and more so is $6-$8 mil really out of line for a top shelf #2 type guy to play in a rotation? This goes to what I've been saying about how Pace's seemingly professed shock over the price of some of the deals simply doesn't jive with a rising cap and rising player contracts in general. Top QBs are asking for well over $20 mil per year and getting it. Top defensive players can get $12-$15 mil.
IMHO it's more Phillips and McCaskey sticker shock right now than Paces. I mean if I can sit here and look at these deals and think it's crazy Pace can see it better than I can. If there's more money to spread around prices go up. That's how the market works. That's how all markets work. So it's tougher to buy off on the we won't spend market price to sign top talent deal when you see the amount of cap space they have and they could create even more.
This is a $1.2 bil sports franchise whose pulling down $50-$60 mil in net profits each year so the McCaskeys haven't exactly become Franciscan Monks and taken a vow of poverty. Just another observation to toss out there.
Hankins in the pickup we need (Jenkins is depth competition only and not starter quality). Now that Poe is off the market on a 1 yr deal, Hankins contract demands hopefully should moderate. Give him a 2 yr deal/6m per. Draft Thomas at 3 and the front-7 is now stacked (and young too). Go get your QB in round 2.

That def. sounds intriguing! Still, wish we could draft a quality DB, hopefully there will be something good in the 3rd.
