This is not even close. Davis has 9 carries for 22 yards and and 2-yr. $6 million contract. We could have Howard on the team for less money, and he could produce more on the field with one leg is a cast..
From his bio...
Jordan Howard was acquired by the Eagles in a trade with the Bears during the 2019 offseason. The 24-year-old Pro Bowler was originally a 5th-round draft choice (150th overall) by Chicago in 2016 and is one of only three NFL RBs with 3,000+ rushing yards (3,370) since 2016, joining Ezekiel Elliott (4,048) and Todd Gurley (3,441). Howard and Gurley are the only NFL RBs with 9+ rushing TDs in each of the last two seasons.
Thanks for the bio...none of where aware of what this player did while he was a member of the team we all root for. Now you're trying to compare a guy who has 9 carries on the season to a guy who has 5 times that amount. I've seen it all. News Flash...Monty is this teams starting running back. Cohen is this teams receiving back...if Howard were on this team today do you know how many carries he'd have? 9.

I disagree, especially when Mitch went out. Howard has had success with this OL and within a version of this O.
While I like Monty - love his versatility - I would rather have Howard when we have to go to a more power-run situation. Not saying Monty isn't a strong runner, my eyes have shown me that Howard was more of a bulldozer, with good enough speed running down the field.
Neither are burners, I love Monty's balance and shifty feet while I love Howard's one cut ability and power.

You are right, but it all comes down to Nagy. What Butkus is saying is that Nagy wouldnt play Howard much, not even with Trub down. Its what history tells us.

This OL is not even the same as the OL last year. The DL is constantly hitting RB's behind the LoS, there are few to no holes. In his only really good game this year the holes were so large any rb could have had a big game w/them.
At no time in Chicago this year would he have had success running the ball w/non existant holes.
Howard would not have crap for yards on this Bear's team so far. He'd be lucky if he had the same amount that Montgomery has. Howard is a good, downhill runner that will hit open holes but that's about it. He can catch the occasional pass but that's not his thing. There have been few open holes in the run game so far this year and there is little need for another receiving back with Cohen on the team.
There are a few big reasons why the run game has been terrible. I put a lot of blame on the OL but it's really not all their fault. A lot of blame needs to be put on Nagy with his play calling. Blame also needs to be placed on the QB. If you look at the passing game you'll see there are very few passes downfield. Most passes are very short crossing routes, outs, hooks and dump offs. Defenses know the Bears are not a deep threat and that their QB play is below average. Defenses want to make the Bears beat them deep so they load the box. How is the line going to open up holes and where is the RB going to go with that many defenders in front of him?
There needs to be a deeper passing threat. They need to find a way to spread defenses out so there is room to run. Never run Patterson up the middle again.

+1
It's sickening to watch the RB get the ball about the same time as the D players are there.

Nagy is doing what he is doing because the OL, up until last game, was not getting it done. They were poor in pass protection and they continue to be poor in run blocking. It's obvious if you when you watch the tape. They miss blocks and assignments. I don't why they are having these problems this year compared to last year but that's the way it is.
They did take some shots downfield in the last game when the line seemed to be able to handle the pass rush from time to time. But as well as the defense was playing Nagy clearly wasn't going to take chances when he didn't need to. Especially with a backup QB.

Seems like we had a better OL w/out Long then with him. Not much better but better all the same. KL needs to get near 100% healthy before he is starting again.

Predicted that before he was officially ruled out. Larsen was decent and I thought Coward was actually better. The backups on the OL (Lucas, Coward, Larsen) have been a pleasant surprise so far this year while the starters (Long, Leno, and Daniels primarily) have been unpleasant surprises.

Again, this is a bit of revisionist history. When Howard came into the league one of his weaknesses was being a one cut running back. Thats in his scouting report. As for power..he's averaging one broken tackle per 13 carries. Montgomery averages 1 broken tackle for every 9 carries. Further, last year was Howards worst year as a pro...if people think this years line is bad...how would Howard be doing better behind a worse offensive line than he had last year? How would a running back who has trouble making tacklers miss create yards when the line fails him? Jordan Howard is seeing 8 defenders in the box on 5% of his snaps this season...Monty? Try 22%. Monty has more broken tackles than Howard has this season. Phillies O-Line is better than ours....someone needs to explain how Howard would be doing better than Monty behind a worse offensive line? As it is he still has less rushing yards than Monty does. Do the law of physics cease to exist on this stove?!
