I'm looking at the player himself Ric and his entire body of work in exactly the same manner I believe Pace or any other NFL GM would not on the basis of some pseudo superstition about NE QBs of the past.Give me a list of those QB and I'll be happy to review them with you. So far you've mentioned one....Matt Cassel. Who are the others?
Do you honestly believe that if Pace and the Bears pro scouting staff believe that JG is just as viable a QB now as he was three years ago when we passed on him for Ego Ferguson that what you posted above would make any difference?
You have posted yourself that you wish we had drafted him but now you're trying to sell me and others on some nonsense idea that he's been ruined by Bill Belicheat and he's worse today than he was as a rookie? Come on man you can't possibly think anyone is gonna accept that argument. It's absurd
Others? Ryan Mallett, Matt Cassell, Bryan Hoyer
Name the great starter out of that group that you would have ever wanted starting for the Bears.
Drafted him yes, b/c at that point you have 4 years to develop him and see him on the cheap; and it would have cost you A pick and A rookie contract. It would NOT have cost you a 1 and 4 AND a vet contract.
There is no comparing the talent level to any of those other QBs with that of Garoppolo. Cassel was a 7th round pick whose had a fair career for a guy whose more or less a career #2 as most 7th round picks are. Hoyer was an UDFA and has survived primarily as a #2 level guy but you can't win much with him. Mallett was the highest pick and he's bombed.
Jimmy G is a better QB than any of them and if NE does shop him he'll likely be one of the most sought after players this offseason. But the idea that you wanted to push that he's not better now than he was when he was drafted and that somehow playing in NE has lowered is value is absurd. Ric it's not even worth debating. Not one pro level scout or GM would agree with that.
I'm gonna just let Pace do as he chooses. I've said all I care to. It's his party or it's his funeral so this decision he has to get right or it really is BOHICA big time in 2017.
