Bottom line: Regardless of whether or not Fox is your guy, who are you going to replace him with? If Pace (or the McCaskeys) has his guy that he wants to go all in on, by all means, do it. Maybe that's Fangio. Maybe it's some upstart OC or DC. Maybe it's a college coach or an assistant coach rising, but replacing Fox for someone you're not 100% comfortable tying your career as a GM to makes no sense in my opinion.
If Fox fails and Pace's draft picks and FA acquisitions continue to 'pan out,' he'll get one more (arguably one - if you think the McCaskeys forced Fox on him) shot at picking an HC. If I were Pace, I think the best move is to keep Fox and use him as the 'rebuild' coach. Once he feels comfortable with the talent on the team, the duties of GM, and the resumes of prospective HCs, make your move. Pace hasn't burned a ton of political capital, yet. I wouldn't burn it now while the team is still acquiring talent.
Does it mean we're definitely going to the playoffs next year? Of course not. But at least you TRIED to get better. Keeping the same worthless employees around and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.
You have to keep trying and trying and trying until you find the RIGHT one. And if this means we have to hire 4 or 5 more HCs in the next ten years, so ****ing be it.
Here's what I know. You can't polish a turd. For the life of me I don't understand how some people here are willing to give Fox another chance even though he hasn't done anything to justify keeping his job.
FWIW if we lose on Sunday, Fox will have a 9-23 record with the Bears. FYI The Browns fired Mike Pettine after two years and a 10-22 record. Let that sink in for a minute...
Also...I know fans don't want to accept this fact, but this is a business, and firing coaches every 2 years happens to cost a lot of money, because a new coach brings in a new staff.
FYI....the Browns are the Browns for a reason. 9 coaches in 16 years. Just keep churnin and burnin...right? It's just a coaching issue there...nothing to do with talent....
