I was thinking that too. But the heck of it is, if you watch that video posted by brasilbear with every snap played by Amegadjie in the game, he really doesn't look any worse than Borom has. Borom is a bad player. Not saying Amegadjie is good at this point. He's obviously not. I will say this. He looks pretty athletic and moves well - in that aspect he is already better than Borom who moves like he has concrete on his feet. This is what you get when the offensive line is not at the level it should be with starters - and worse with depth.
Kiran literally blocked air on every pass play for 2 full series.
No one is saying Borom is good but he's way better than that.
So does Nate. Maybe they coach them up that way. Less wear and tear on the body.

If you watch (objectively watch) every snap in that game, he had up and down plays that overall looked no worse than Larry Borom. But it's not taking away from the fact that we have real problems on the OL - with starters and depth. It's like figuring out who is the tallest midget in the room.

I mean, I get it/ If one guy had played a while and the new guy comes ind plays at the same (low) level, you have to give it to the new guy. At least you hope for some upside. The chances of him coming in raw and playing at his ceiling are low. He should get better.
And I'm not saying Amegadgie should have played, but just sick over the poor quality of offensive linemen we have now. The starters are backup quality for the most part and the backups are really bad. It's not going to look any better with a Larry Borom at LT (holy cow that guy is bad) - how is he even still on the team? I get it, he's on a cheap rookie contract, but still...

We just don't have the depth. We would have to get Kmet to sub in to LT when he is not snapping or playing TE

If they are starting KA again, at least have a TE or RB help him pass blocking so Williams doesn’t get killed.

After reading this thread, I feel like only JABF actually knew what they were looking at.
First, let's get the elephant in the room out in the open:
Yes, I agree Kiran isn't ready. The Bears ran out of bodies and needed to use him.
Now that this has been said, let's get something completely straight here:
Kiran has a TON more upside than Braxton Jones. The mistakes made on Sunday were all mental - Kiran doesn't know his assignments yet and it appears the issues are all in not knowing WHO to block in a given play. In short, its all correctable items.
Now let's be honest and look at the flip side - when Kiran DID block someone, he was absolutely WASHING them, Tevin Jenkins-style. His anchor is so insanely better than Braxton's it's ridiculous. When he got the right block, the defender couldn't disengage from him, could only at best push him a step or two back, Kiran knew enough to reroute the defender WIDE (which Braxton STILL doesn't do, because he's too busy getting pushed straight back into the pocket), and I caught Kiran looking for work SEVERAL times coming off his initial block, at one point basically laying out 3 defenders on a play, and was also instrumental in blocking for Swift's TD run.
Kiran PHYSICALLY looks really damn good. He looks like a STUD LT.
My issue was he was literally fucking up his assignment and blocking the wrong guy 50% of the time, which at times let runners come free around the edge, which can't happen.
We have 2 bad teams on the horizon - I am ok with Kiran learning on the job for those games, because that should give him good tape to review.
And after that, my hope is we launch this coaching staff into the sun and get a real staff in here, and I bet the whole offensive line looks better with better coaching, plus the Bears should add some interior linemen in the draft.
But Kiran?
He clearly isn't ready YET - but so long as he isn't a mental midget (and he went to YALE so I doubt it), I think the Bears have their LT of the future. Its just a shame he had to see the field this year, but I think being out there a couple games and having tape to review will do nothing but help him grow.

.....
I am quite sure what I was looking at when I saw Kiran block nothing but air on pass set after pass set. Romo all but laughed out loud at him those first few drives until our illustrious coaching staff finally figured that hey maybe we need to give him some help so Caleb doesn't get killed.
Believe it or not, I'm not ragging on the guy. I'm ragging on the coaches. Even us dumb fans could easily anticipate that he would be nowhere near ready for live bullets. He's a rookie from a small college program who was injured and missed the entire offseason program. He only started practicing a few weeks ago. He literally hasn't played real football, college or pro, in a year. Asking him to come off the bench cold to sub in at LT in the middle of the game was not fair to him at all.
The Bears weren't out of bodies. The coaches CHOSE to make him the primary backup OT and keep Borom inactive. Borom has been the swing OT for 2 years now. He has real NFL experience at multiple positions, LT included. He's been a solid backup and he practiced in full all week. He was available but the coaches chose not to activate him.

+1 I would encourage people to actually watch the snaps from the game isolating on him. That ^^^ is what I see. And yes, the guy should not be playing now. I don't think anyone is arguing that - if the offensive line had talent and depth (which they don't have). So Amegadjie got thrown into the deep end of the pool on Sunday - and he's trying to learn how to swim at the NFL level and not drown.
