We are just smarter than other teams. We were smarter with keeping Lovie longer than Tampa did. We were also smarter in hiring Emery, who in turn was also the smartest guy in the room when he hired Trestman.
Sorry. Elway might be a 24 karat dick (maybe even a whole bag of 'em) but the dude knows football. Certainly more than Ted Phillips does. I'll take his letting go of Fox as better judgement than our keeping him.
Elway has done a great job for the Broncos. Wouldn't it be great to have a guy like that? He has made some real gutsy moves.
I love how the Browns have become the cautionary tale or bogeyman-franchise. Can't change HCs because look what happens!! You become the Browns....[insert scary sound here]
But lets ignore the Jags and the Rams. Good thing Bradley and Fisher stuck around huh? Change is bad huh?
Change is fine if you change for the better. Constant change alone just keeps you in an endless loop of fail. Fire fox and get someone better is fine. It's that "getting someone better" thing that has been tough so far for us - and yes for teams like the Browns too.
We've been in an endless loop of fail for 30+ years. I'd like us to fire Fox and hire a strong coordinator who can develope a qb as our next HC.

because the HC should be micromanaging the dev. of a QB...Hell, that should be Paces first question: are you a good QB coach? Discuss...

I have known John for years and he has always been great guy to be around especially when on the golf course. And right he is smarter then most when it come the game and getting rid of Fox proves it.

Bad time of year to be talking up Elway IMHO.
I dunno. I think most of us would be really pleased with being no worse than 8-7 right now and have the Broncos record over the last 5 years. I'd trade for that.

I think just as important the deficiencies in his coaching that Elway saw have followed him here. When I read quotes like that after game 15 this year and game 31 overall I have to ask when does it start? You've had two years.
''It's not a matter of whether or not guys want to win or not,'' Fox said on Monday. ''It's executing well enough to win, so I think the intentions are good, our effort's good. Where we have work to do is execution.''
''I think the details of some of those pass plays, whether it's receiver depths, pass protection, a quarterback's reads, where they start and where they finish - that's kind of been our demise all season, I think with the number of guys you roll through the starting lineup,'' Fox said. ''So it was more detail oriented, and that in turn affects your execution. Those would be things we'd have to work on for sure, as a football team and not just one position. And we've got one more opportunity this season to work on it.''
So now it seems he's asking for the 32nd time to be patient until they can get their execution down. The Marines receive 13 weeks of basic training to prepare them for battle so how come after two full offseasons and 31 games some of our guys still can't execute at positions they've played since HS?

JJ, we are privileged to have your personal insight here. I have only seen Elways work from afar but he seems to know what triggers to pull. I have seen Ted Phillips work over a long period of time and am more familiar with it so I was just going by my experience over time and reading the tea leaves (some would call it MSU!).
Great to hear a little more insight here. Honestly, I think we need to have someone else steering this ship. I hope George is smart enough and has at least three testicles, because getting distance from a long time confidant that has made the family a ton of money over the years will not be an easy decision. I don't think he will pull the trigger, but I think in his heart he knows.

I think he will get his time. What I am not sure of is how it will go. I have always thought of Fox as an average coach that surrounded himself with excellent co-ordinators who got the job done for him. If he can do it again, he will look better next year and he will be given the credit and he will stay. He may also be given more power and given his numb nuts tendencies, might end up looking almost as bad next year. If Pace gives him a lot more talent next year as I expect he will, he had better deliver and I suspect he will.
The question is whether or not he will deliver to the level of the talent he will be given or whether he will just do better and be evaluated more on progress rather than what should be delivered with the tools given. Definitely some interesting times ahead.
