My feelings are clear enough so if he does survive with the second worst two year record of any HC in Bears history then I'm gonna call him "The Cat" because those 9 wins must be his "nine lives" and he'll be the luckiest losing HC in the NFL.
John Fox continues to survive as other struggling coaches lose their jobs
by Bryan Perez
With one week remaining in the 2016 season, coach John Fox and the Bears have terribly under performed in his second year with the team. After beginning his tenure in Chicago with a 6-10 record last season, Fox and the Bears have regressed to 3-13 with a road game against Minnesota coming in the year's finale.
Now at 9-23, Fox's future with the team is still up for debate. While there haven't been any firm reports of him being on shaky ground, the reality is another loss in Week 17 -- especially if it's of the blowout variety like last week against the Redskins -- won't help his chances at coming back.
The Bears are one of the worst teams in the NFL, but that doesn't appear to be factoring much in Fox's job stability right now. Other teams, all of which have the same or better record than Chicago, have already begun firing their head coach. Today's news of the Bills firing Rex Ryan adds to the Rams cutting ties with Jeff Fisher and the Jaguars terminating Gus Bradley.
Both Fisher and Bradley were moves that appeared overdue, but Ryan's firing is a bit of a surprise after less than two years on the job and 15-16 record. When compared to Fox, Ryan has been a resounding success.
Fox has the benefit of leaning on injuries as justification for a year that has come far short of expectations. With several criticical roster decisions facing general manager Ryan Pace this offseason, adding a head coaching search to the mix could create a winter of utter chaos.
The Bears have to decide if quarterback Jay Cutler will remain with the team while also determining whether Alshon Jeffery is worthy of a top-tier receiver contract. Each of those decisions will have long-reaching and critically important impacts on the roster. Neither appears capable of being made with a head coaching search happening at the same time.
Fox appears safe, for now. But with the axe falling all around him, he better bring his A-game in Week 17.
