Wouldn't you rather have a superstar on the field? instead of sitting in the stands? LOL
Taylor Swift is not a superstar. She couldn't hold Ann Wilson's (Heart) or Debbie Harry's Maxi pad on a vocalist talent level. She's very average at best.
Seriously? Some people like her music, some don't but nobody can't deny the fact that she truly is a superstar. Come on dude.
It's not so much liking or not liking her music. More about her vocal capabilities/ talent. Very one dimension, not a lot of range. Seems very limited in which key she sings in.
Was a guitarist in my younger days. There's more to music than just making a pop hit. Most musicians that appreciate talent will tell you that Eddie Van Halen was the greatest guitarist that ever lived. Many tried but, no one could play the guitar the way he did. Truly gifted hands. The Walter Payton, Michael Jordan of guitar playing. Some might argue against that but, they'd be incorrect with that assumption. Compare a few whitney Houston tunes compared to a few Swift songs. Big difference in vocal talent.
Moderator note: A political comment deleted... Bandegruff no big deal - but we do avoid politics here like the plague.
But yea, they are just people like you and I. They eat, drink, sleep, use the restroom just like we do. They just have an advantage with exploiting gullible people that worship them like gods. But, there's only 1 true god and they're not him!!

I'll take Frank Marino's (and Mahogany Rush) guitar playing over Van Halen's any day of the year. And I'll fight you over it.

VH was an innovator on the guitar. Back in the 80's /90's everybody wanted to play like him. From the kid in his room to the bands in the garage. The rival metal bands to the glamor hair bands everyone one of them tried to copy him. Because he set the bar on guitar playing. Randy Rhoads was probably the closest to him. But, both his life and career were tragically cut short.

They even went Country for a song just to prove they could do it better!

I thought Tom Morello was pretty awesome... I was at Grant Park one night he played there with Rage Against the Machine on a hot August night years ago. LOL, I thought we were gonna die in the crowd that night that kept pressing forward. They stopped the concert 3 times that night due to worry about people getting crushed by the crowd. That was at a Lollapalooza... I used to go every year, but that was years ago. I also like blues. I've been to hear Buddy Guy live a number of times. Two from the past would be Neil Young and George Harrison. I never heard Harrison live though.
I'm a woodworker. My son plays guitar and when he was young we got an idea to make a custom guitar for him. we built this one:
A few years later we got a crazier idea for a Flying V guitar. I had some reclaimed old-growth hard maple (reclaimed from an old shipwreck on Lake Michigan). That turned out to be a pretty awesome guitar. It looks like a solid body guitar but it is actually a hollow body... sounds great:

Guitarwork is my thing, it's what makes music music. I used to go to bluesfest a lot but it got too crazy (or I got too old for the crowds! last time I went I was almost crushed when they rushed and knocked over a fence I was in front of. Very scary!) I've seen Buddy Guy live several times too. A lot of good blues in the bars too, Eddie Shaw and the wolfgang - he used to play with Muddy Waters, Melvin Taylor and the Slack band, Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, Joanna Connor. Man, no wonder I'm hard of hearing. Or was it all the Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Scorpions and Metallica (old Metallica) and Mahogany Rush concerts? Hey kids - use earplugs! and turn it down in the car!

One non-guitar blues performer I liked was Pinetop Perkins. He was a guitarist until he got into a knife fight with a gal and had permannt tendon damage to his arm... so he became the best blues piano player ever. I did hear him live before he passed away in 2011.
Bandegruff Please refrain from making any political statements, even if meant as a joke. There's a reason why we have a zero politics rule on this board. We all know how quickly it can and will get ugly when politics are involved. There's plenty of that stuff on the web and in the news. We really don't need it in here.
Thank you.
I agree! I wasn't making a political statement so much as i was providing a possible reason of the disparity in celebrity recognition by the network in this particular instance.
Taylor Swift, whether you like it or not or agree with it or not, is a WORLDWIDE superstar. Biles, is an American sports superstar. The two aren't remotely the same. And I'm not trying to take anything away from Biles...she's the goat! But music will always be more popular than gymnastics.

I had to look him up tbh. Vaguely, remember him mentioned back in the day. If your talking bands out of Canada, i've only known Rush (the 3 man Band) and Triumph. Look, there were a ton of great guitarists back in the day. Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani Gary Moore, Lot of people were big on Ritchie Blackmore. But, I've never understood why. Same With Jimmy Page. Meh!! Plus lets not forget Jimmy Hendricks!
