Ryan Poles needs to be an option on that list. Tired of watching a crap OL get owned on game days. Mark my words. Caleb Williams will be on IR by the bye week. Maybe if he's lucky he'll get to the real tough part of the schedule after the bye - and get IR'd. It's coming. He's taking some tough hits and abuse these 3 games.
No blocking. No running (Swift blows chunks). Poles let Monty walk and brought in Swift. Pitiful play calling (Waldron just isn't looking good so far... that's on Poles too).
Poles "talks" a good story with the OL but his actions don't measure up with his talk. Other than Wright, the OL has been "built" with mediocre to downright bad players. Shameful. Just shameful.
I never was impressed with Swift when he was a Lion. He was hyped but so easily tackled. I saw none of Swift with the Eagles so I thought he'd improved with all the hype of his signing in the off-season. It is unbelievable to think Bears didnt pay Monty only to pay Swift. WTF?!
I know. Monty is a money player when you need him. He will get you the tough "have to have" yards. If you sneeze around Swift he's down. SMH.

I was torn at what to pick. O Line yes! Swift is not the RB the Bears need. Bears were severly out played on ST,I mean badly. Our punter has some bad punts, out kicker missed a FG. Bears kick/punt returners were absolutely swarmed. The encroachment on Daniel Hardy on the punt to swing possession from Bears to Colts was the beginning of the end. Ultimately, I went with play-calling because this game was all about the Bears exacting their will on this beaten up Colts run D. RoJo shouldve had 20 plus carries. Why is Waldron insisting on sticking with Swift?? Minimum 50/50 run-pass no matter what. Wear the D down and open up the passing for the rookie! I was having horrible Nagy flashbacks when Roschon had success then disappeared. Seattle ran the ball with power... why would Waldron not follow GB's script?? Who cares if they were playing 1 high & stacking the box? Tell Jenkins, Pryor, Wright to be gnasty road graders and not worry about anything else. What a frigging disaster!

It was a rare mediocre game by DJ Moore. Not that he wasnt hung out to dry a couple times. If he caught that Hail Mary tip drill cleanly - it was right through his hands - it was an easy lean in /step in TD to go into half time.
Went with offensive play calling. They’re just brutal. Caleb is having his struggles but he can definitely make throws and plays. If the coaching staff can scheme to protect him, I believe he’ll live up to the hype. Flus is still Flus and while people were celebrating his hair and beard, they forgot he still can’t coach.

I wasn't able to watch the game til later today. I agree with everyone. Rarely is it just one issue. The play calling was not great. The protection was not great. Williams had his obligatory overthrows. Swift is just not that good a runner.
Those are the things I saw but I do not know the reasons for them. The play calling was not good. Did he feel he had to do that because of a rookie QB, or because of the line? That may be but either way, he should be able to create plays that mitigate those issues. Either our guys are so bad that a coach can't work around it, or he can't seem to figure it out. Our guys are not that bad IMO, and so I am comfortable saying the coaching is a real issue.
The protection not being great, we had discussed ad nauseum. The line is just not that good and is allowing too much pressure on Williams and not opening up good enough holes for the running game. I put this one Poles. I still think Odunze was the right pick and at the same time I think Poles could have done better with upgrading the OL. Either picking different guys (money spent on Swift for instance), and the OL guys he went with as another and done a better job with the OL. And the OL coach may be a problem here also. I don't know.
Williams made his usual overthrows. I don't know why that keeps happening. Is the WR in the wrong place? Does CW still have the yipees? He shouldn't by the third game. He is making a few bad decisions with two picks. Having said all of that (because they all happened and you have to note them as part of the loss), he is getting better. I do think he has settled down some. Which makes the overthrows more maddening. He does seem to see and process the field well. In post game interviews, he seems like he has seen the field when they ask about the interceptions, etc. So if he is processing at a reasonable level (and it is impressive for a rookie), why does he make those decisions? Pressure? game too fast? Not sure, but I like his progress and look for this stuff to go away. And you also have to note that he had two TDs. You have to love that! A note here that keeps rumbling around in my head like a loose marble (which it may in fact be). It's Odunze, Odunze, Odunze when he talks about WRs. If I am DJ Moore, I am starting to wonder how I fit in with this Odunze bromance. The guy is a stud and is a top WR. I would like to see CW give him a little more love and credit. I get the rookie growing connection with Rome, but he is a leader and that means like a parent, you have to love all your children the same.
As far as Swift goes, he just seems like an average RB. I get the line is not good, but I see less paid RBs make something out of nothing (like when there are little to no holes). We have not had a long run yet this season. Only 3 games in, but the thing is that my expectation of a long run has disappeared. Not sure if it is the scheme, the players or the line. I suspect all three.
I really thought we would win this game. They did not have a win until they played us. That sticks in my craw, honestly.
