his amazing 177 yards passing yesterday was proof 100% scapegoated.
He was PART of the problem, not THE problem. Just like Mitch, Cutler and everyone in between. No HC/OC can build an effective O w/the OL being completely ignored. No Qb can function w/the OL being a welcome matt.
Romo is the only one I have ever seen have NO OL and function at any kind of functional level. Fields is NOT Romo, not by a long shot. Fields couldn't even win the starting job in Pitt w/a spent burned out and injured Wilson. Took Wilson's inability to find the field for Fields to get a shot. He was not scapegoated, he just one in a long list of issues.
It was never Justin Fields v Caleb Williams.
It was:
Justin Fields Two first round picks Two second round picks Star Player
Or
Caleb Williams
Option #1 is looking more and more right by the week.
I’m far from saying CW was not the right choice. I mean just two games. But I agree with it not being just about Fields

117 passing yards is not starting caliber qb play. he still cannot consistently lead an O to 24+ points. This is not a starting caliber qb.
The problem wasn't JF+ capital. It was taking CWill, easiest and most obvious answer, minus doing anything to fix the OL. You didn't need Allen AND Rome, you really didn't need either, you 100% didn't need both. CJ Stroud isn't doing what he's doing w/a ton of WR options, Mahomes had 1 legit WR and 1 legit TE w/a decent #2.
What they both have/had was a legit OL to keep them cool while they learned how to play. This is what muffed Mitch and Justin. You cannot have a young qb that cannot feel comfortable + learning the O at an NFL level.
Either take the money you gave Allen and put it into the OL, OR trade back get a 2nd or 3rd rd pick and get an OT/OG w/that later 1st and OC w/that other pick. Rome would have garnered you plenty b/c of his potential.
The problem isn't the qb, it's the OL. The problem the last several years was the OL and the QB. You see it in Pitt now, the QB is still a problem. Dude is a vet now and still cannot pass and score. The Def is winning their games, and he's not a rookie. He's playing like a backup, b/c he is one. Williams is playing like a rookie, b/c he is one. The OL is playing like door matts, b/c they are door matts.
