I am so glad we have the defense that we do. The offense did not look in sync. The TN IOL is pretty damned good, but if they don't play better next week, I don't think they will get past Houston.
I think they will end up being very good before the season is over. This was Calebs first game. I was not impressed with the offense. Caleb hopefully learned to get rid of the ball rather than to take big sacks. But he made good decisions for the most part.
He is only one of 4 QBs to EVER win their first game as a rookie. David Carr, Jim Plunkett, and John Elway were the others. I'll take that.
Looking forward to next weeks game and hopefully some offensive improvement. Luckily, the defense can pick up a LOT of slack, but the O has to be able to hold up their end of the bargain a little better. This sounds worse than I feel about this game, but just trying to be objective.
It just wasn't a very good offensive game. BUT, it was a rookie QBs first game, he ends up being the 4th in history to win it. He did not have an interception (no TD either.... well, there was the extra points :-).
He did not look great, but he did not look downright horrible either. I have seen worse QB play in Chicago from QBs that were not rookies.
He looked calm and in control. I think a very good start to a rookies career that I think will end up being a really great career. Let's hope!
That is a good synopsis of where the team is at. After months of hype, and wildly over-the-top expectations by most of us (me included), yesterday was a much-needed reality check. This is a brand new offense, with a new OC and schemes, and a rookie quarterback to boot. There is a lot to be hopeful for, but also there is a lot of work to do before this is a smoothly running offense. I think most of the pieces are there for a good season. Even the offensive line that I rail about all the time, is not that bad, and will get better. I re-watched the game focusing primarily on the offensive line, and I was overly harsh on Nate Davis. His play was mostly okay (everybody on the OL yesterday had some miscues). Four of the five positions on the OL seem okay... still need an upgrade at center.
I'm thankful the Bears had Tennessee first and then the Texans. I do believe there is a LOT that can be cleaned up for next Sunday night's game. Houston looks impressive though. That is one powerful team. Anyway, BIH, your assessment was what I take from the game too. We don't need to be out on the ledge, but we shouldn't be over-hyping this season either. Lot's of work to do for the coaches and players now. But it looks like we can be optimistic. If you squint you can see a very promising beginning of what should be a very good team at some point.
