But it's not just PFF. I think it's a joke to rank ANYTHING before the season starts. In my mind (I know it's the weak link in the chain), you can only rank when you have results to compare. No games have been played so how do you know any teams individual performance - much less against another teams performance which you don't have either. The only way I believe you have any correlation to how good a unit is, if you have the very same players on the unit as last year. And even then it is a slippery slope. If all the players are veterans, you can say with some degree of confidence that the unit will perform similarly to last year. If the team is the same but there were lots of new players the last year, the unit could do much better than it did the year before so even with all the same players, the comparison may not be accurate. And that only goes as far as trying to determine how good an individual unit is, IF THE SAME AS the previous year.

Hard enough, but when you now go and try to rank against other teams that have mostly changed and have no games or stats to determine how they have performed, how do you rank one against the other? It is a fools errand. After you have a few games under the belt in a season and you have actual performance statistics on the various units, then you can compare and rank. Right now any rankings IMO are completely meaningless and set expectations that are not based in reality, but JMO
