I'd pick Allen IF I were to pick a defensive player in rd 1 . But that's not what I hope they do - I wanna see an OT .... and another one in rd 3 ( rd 2 is a QB ) .
Is there even a single OT who rates that high? I didn't think there was although right now who knows. That's what I never talk draft seriously this early.
Not a fan of Barnett. If he's the best we can do with the 3/4 pick, ugh. I haven't spent a lot of time (YET!) looking at the nuances of his play, but the thing that stands out immediately is his snap anticipation. He looks EXTREMELY sluggish off the ball which is either a sign of bad reaction time OR low cognitive ability in analyzing what's happening on any given play.
Here's Draft Breakdown's game cutup of Barnett vs Alabama. NOT IMPRESSED
Regarding Jonathan Allen, I wonder how he fits on this team's defensive front?
He's playing at 293 this year but that's after forcing on 30 lbs between 2015 and 2016 AND that's after adding tons of weight prior years (the kid was a 180lbs WR/Safety in high school).
I'm no expert, but I really question the kid's longevity at that weight and would be concerned about injury (lots of added weight on joints lacking the proper condition to carry it) or difficulties in controlling weight.
Seems like a wonderful prospect but not one that necessarily fits into the scheme the Bears run ESPECIALLY if Fangio is on his way out. Fangs is the guy who could conceive of a destructive role for this dude in his 3-4 base system. Not sure others can.
Thanks for these. Garrett is a true stud. To me, Allen and Barnett is a push. I would be just as glad to have Barnett as Allen. Maybe even more.
At #3, one will be available. I love it. Just don't win this Sunday. If we win, I think we end up at #5.
And no, a good GM can't them them after they have already been picked. He has to pick someone who does not have this kind of film and develop them. Which is possible if he gets the right guy. The these guys are already the right guy.

You know your talking about the Bears, no way they pick 3 Offensive players with the first 3 pick of any draft. I see them going more S or DE in the first two picks next year then maybe QB.

Our defense needs more help than our offense imo.
In player personnel yes but in scheming and coaching no.
But in adding personnel we need more vet leaders like Jerrell Freeman and a healthier Pernell McPhee who is also strong leader. Without leaders spaced all over that defense the scheme and execution falls apart so the draft is not gonna help with that immediately. We have to fill those spots in FA and keep rolling the BPA deal in the draft. Some of those guys will step up as Whithair did but some will also become a disappointment like Amos who is not a good leader in the secondary where we need one badly.
