That is a really great point that I hadn't thought about. But you are right. Now we can clearly know where the failure is now. In the past it was just a cesspool of failures that I couldn't sort it out for myself, how much blame should go to each failed component of the team. LOL, it was like a math equation with too many unknown factors.
The problem won’t be with the receivers. It will be one of the Ws. Either Williams or Waldron.
And hopefully not the offensive line. I don't think they will fail, but I am a worrier every year about how they will do. But yeah, one of the Ws are definitely factors too. But honestly I feel good about the team overall, even the OL.

Oops, totally forgot about the OL. Yes, absolutely could be them too. It just won’t be the receivers

Any of the top-6 QBs in this draft can throw to the Bears receiver group. They’d all rather be with the Bears.

+1 And the media people awhile back were all parroting how Caleb Williams did not want to be a Bear. And Robert Griffin III told him to not go to the Bears if they drafted him. SMH.
Oh, and I loved watching all the photos of him having a ball with the Bears fans last night. Jumped down into the mosh pit with 'em.

I've heard a couple of rumors that Poles and his folks have reached out to FA OC Connor Williams. I'm thinking that Connor is still recovering from his ACL last December. And that he may not be ready for the season opener.
I don't know if there is anything factual to this. But he is a pretty decent center.

+1 I think the bottom line (taken from what I have been reading about Poles and the offensive line) is that he is all-in on making sure Caleb Williams has a solid unit protecting him. Of course it won't be a perfect OL. Nobody in the NFL gets perfect. There will be hurries, sacks and QB hits. But overall it sure seems like this could be the best OL we have seen in many years here - tackle to tackle.
Kiran Amegadjie, the 3rd round pick last night of the young tackle from Yale sounds like an incredible addition to the unit. The Bears really like Braxton Jones at LT, but the Bears want competition on that OL. They see competition as a healthy thing. So this newly drafted guy is expected to challenge Braxton Jones for a starting role this year, but probably won't beat Brax out - but what I love is the fact the Bears are having legit competition on that OL. Nobody is getting "crowned" as being above some healthy competition.
Poles stated last night that at the very least they got a solid swing tackle in this kid. He has played both the tackle and the guard positions. Here is exactly what Poles said about the new OT:
[LINK] "You love the tools that he has. His pass [protection] is really good. Love his length, hand usage, and a big man that we believe is going to continue to get bigger and more explosive. So it should really increase the competition on our offensive line and make everyone better. We don’t really wanna put a ceiling on him. I see the progression is potentially getting himself into swing tackle setup. He can play guard, he played guard early in his career, too. So swing tackle, inside-outside, which is always helpful. We’ve struggled with flexibility in the past, so he has that ability. And then we’ll see where he ascends to. If that means competing to start this year or next year, that’s great. But if he ends up just being another really good offensive lineman, you can’t have enough."
I absolutely love that mindset. "you can never have enough really good offensive linemen" - I think most savvy fans understand that QUALITY offensive line depth can make or break your season. Surely it can make or break a playoff run. As I get older as a fan, I'm looking at these player acquisitions through a new lens. It is all about R.O.I. with these guys, "return on investment." It isn't what these guys are now, but rather what the Bears believe they can be. Kiran Amegadjie looks like a poster boy acquisition for this mindset. His floor is a valuable swing tackle for high-quality depth, right now in 2024. His ceiling is viewed as very possibly being a starting tackle, maybe even LT. Words cannot express just how much I like this draft so far. Just knocking it out of the park pick-after-pick.

I've been watching Williams very closely, during the draft and the short time since his pick. And I am very impressed.
This has nothing to do with his skill in playing football. It is all related to his ability to work with people. He seems t have an ability to work with people in a very perceptive, subtle and nuanced way. I believe he is very savvy; knows how he is perceived by others and is on a mission to become the face of the Bears franchise. Actually, IMO, he has partially done it.
It will be interesting to follow his journey here.

I've been following both Swift Sports Network and Adam Maso a lot this draft cycle. Both of them were very high on Amegadjie for months prior to the draft. Adam Mason's take on Amegadjie is he is like Braxton Jones, except with a real anchor in both run and pass blocking. He is not a polished and perfect starting LT. But it is easy to see a potential for a really solid NFL LT.
While watching stuff on Amegadjie I came across this channel and I found a treasure trove of video on his play. A lot of it is not the highest quality but here is one by a guy named Scott Fisher. I had never seen his stuff reviously, but I'm going to dive in to his channel, as it looks interesting.

I am so impressed. We forget that this is a 22 year old kid just out of college. He won't always say the perfect thing or do the perfect thing. Heck, I'm an old man and I still don't get it right sometimes. But with Caleb Williams (some) of the media, and some of the meatballs on social media, have an agenda here that is so wrong. They have tried to find faults with the kid. They have smeared the kid with some things that were flat lies when the facts were known. I think it's the dark side of people when they feel they should hurt people's reputations this way. They are hateful little people, jealous people I think, who want to take down a good young man.
And this won't end. In fact I expect it to escalate as Caleb starts enjoying success here. So we'd better just get used to it. It is sad, but it's the world we live in now.

I liked that video.
I remember reading about Kiran Amegadjie now... after the draft it began coming back to me. He was seen as an "under the radar" guy who could end up being a steal for the Bears. The Bears invited him to a pre-draft visit, so he's been on their radar for awhile now.
I loved listening to Poles describe last night why they like this kid. His floor is seen as being a quality swing tackle in 2024. And he is going to be challenging Braxton Jones for a starting LT job, but with the idea he won't win that one as a rookie. It's not that they don't like Brax. They do like him and his improvement and his play. But they like quality competition on the OL. To quote Poles:
"If that means competing to start this year or next year, that’s great. But if he ends up just being another really good offensive lineman, you can’t have enough."
Love that. But we need to get this kid a nickname... his name is beyond my ability to pronounce

He is young and has been raised deeply in the social media verse. He knows how to navigate around it and the negative creeps that are out there so he knows the time. What is great about him really? Not his skills and traits but his energy! A lot of young people lack the drive or passion for something but this guy has it in spades. I was not a believer because we all know the drill, every 3 years a new QB is the one to the promised land.
This is what the Bears are in need of. An Energy, persona, A REAL player to take charge! This is the type of person that people follow into a foxhole with or want to walk beside. He will make the Bears fun again. Just look at his jersey sales! We don't need no T.Swift! We have a C.Will train! I think that there will be a lot of younger people that become Bear fans just because of his Aura and that is a good thing.
I hope to see him jumping up and down a lot, dancing all over the field. Drive up the crowds. Make people remember what the Bears are all about. A Smash in your face good time! But this team, It will be the offense running it into players faces!
