Do you want the Bears to start the rookie right away? If not then who should be the starter, Tyson Bagent or Brett Rypien? Or should they sign a veteran to start this year?
LINK The Bears are bucking a trend with their rookie QB situation
Starting a rookie quarterback immediately is more common in the NFL over the last 15 years or so, but the Bears haven’t followed suit with their recent first-round quarterbacks. In fact, based on data from Pro Football Reference, this will be the first time in team history that a first-round rookie quarterback will start in Week 1, barring a surprise. The only time a rookie quarterback began the season as a starter was Kyle Orton back in 2005 and that was due to injury.

I think best player from TC and preseason should start. We seem to be pretty loaded talent wise with the O, let's see how the play calling and player chemistry meshes.

I think letting him sit for a while would be best, but from what I am seeing, that will not happen. We really don't have a quality QB to play ahead of him, and Poles has already stated that a big reason he did the QB change was to take advantage of the rookie payscale. If you want to want to do that, you don't let the guy sit and "waste" some of that time.

I agree with all of that. And you're right, we don't have a quality veteran QB to fit that role well. And they wouldn't need to do the entire year like they did with Patrick Mahomes. But maybe give his some time the first season to transition. But you're right, that's not going to happen.

I thought Brett Rypien was a strange signing. He's got more playing time than Bagent but Bagent seems like the best young backup theyve had in a bit. Apparently he was a practice squad QB with Waldron in Seattle.
I'm going CJ Stroud route. Let the rookie learn from his mistake.
And I think that's what's going to happen. I hope fans are patient with him as he inevitably makes a percentage of mistakes. Virtually everyone understands that Stroud was an exception to the rule when it comes to transitioning to the NFL. Even Hall of Fame quarterbacks have struggled their rookie seasons (I posted a list of a number of them in a recent post in another thread). If Caleb struggles a bit, it won't mean he's a bust, but rather he is going through what most rookie QB1s go through as they learn the game at the NFL level.

The reality is the fans don't actually matter. Unless he comes out looking just abysmal he's going to be given 3 years to get things right, like pretty much every other high prospect QB. So they can be grumpy all they want, it's not going to change anything.
I don't expect he'll be that bad though. He doesn't have to be great. He just has to exceeds JF's performance, which is a pretty low bar.

+1 Great way to put it. He doesn't have to light it up day-1 and be great right out of the chute. And you are right about him getting 3 years to get things right.
