I know it is wayyyyyyyy early to be talking about wins/losses, but thought I'd put this out there. Last year I think the over/under was 7.5 wins and we got 7.

Rookie QBs rarely fair well. CJ Stroud's season last year was historic statistically. Big Ben had 11 wins his rookie year which was a record. We shouldnt hold the next Bears rookie QB to those standards.

Why not? He’s an immortal generational talent like Luck, and coming to a ream with good support unlike B. Young.
Here we are making excuses for a 9-8 record before the first game. The stats are meaningless unless you limit the analysis only to QB’s draft #1 with decent support. That’s the Williams situation. The standard for this season should be 10 wins minimum.

I keep thinking that just because a college kid is called generational - that doesn't mean anything. It's just some label thing that may or may not be accurate. These are human beings and not machines. Every single one is unique. They develop at different rates and have different ceilings. Aaron Rodgers' first full season as the starter had 6 wins and 10 losses with Jordy Neslon and Donald Driver. He did not meet the 10 win minimum... but in 3 years he won a Super Bowl. I just toss that out... there are great QBs who have not played great their rookie year. Brett Favre didn't make it to 10 wins his first full season as a starter. Steve Young was a downright bad QB his rookie year starting only 5 games and threw for 3 TDs and 8 interceptions. Dude sucked. Troy Aikman went 0-11 in his starts for the Dallas Cowboys. Aikman also passed for 18 interceptions compared to just nine touchdowns.
Yeah, rookies can be all over the board. It's just a rough year for a lot of players, even if they end up Hall of Fame guys.

Seeing that Fields horrible 4th quarter performance cost us a few games. I agree. 10 game wins is something I want to see. I ain't going to say he's a bust if he doesn't but I need to see him doing better than Fields horrible performance.

It is not only Williams. We have Keenan Allen, a new (competent) offensive coordinator, two FA centers. and presumably a very good WR or edge rusher from the #9 pick. With all these additions, 9-8 is not much improvement.

I agree, but the new QB is a wildcard. We don't know how much having a new QB in there is going to hold us back.

That is true, but my point is that with this offense and defense, the Bears TEAM should be better than 9-8. People are leaning on the “rookie QB” idea pretty hard to pre-justify a 9-8 record.

Not sure what you are getting at David. Yes, it is a team and the Qb is part of that team. If that particular component is not doing well, the whole team wins less.
