We don't need another Mike Glennon or Andy Dalton situation. Just wasting cap and not really being a good teacher. Unless you got Kirk Cousins on a 1 year deal. Then I would be ok with that. No other FA QB out there is worth it.
Even learning from a great QB doesn't always mean your a good one. Jimmy Garoppolo being a great example.
This looks to be on paper the best Bears offense we've had since 2013 with Forte, Bennett, Marshal, and Jeffery.
I expect a lot of the veteran players helping our young QB learn his game. That's more important than a QB who will sit the bench halfway through the season eating up cap space. That's what hurt us more than anything else. Lack of real playmakers.
I read an article that we were looking at Carson Wentz as our veteran mentor for CW.
That'd be better than Rypien. I'd be curious about Tannehill, too. Although I have no idea what these guys would cost. I don't want to spend TOO much on a QB2.

If true, makes you wonder why even have brought Rypien on board?

I guess Rypien was on the Seahawks practice squad last year so has some familiarity of the offense that's about to be installed, but sure seems pretty limited. On 670AM the other day they were saying maybe he would just get them through the install and be cut after training camp. Just their spitballing though.

Actually, Brad Spielberger has estimated Tannehill would likely get a 1 or 2 year deal averaging $5.5M/yr. Wentz signed a 1-yr contract with the Rams last year at the vet minimum ($1.165M).
I agree that Rypien is here to install the OFF, he'll be the #3 if he's still on the roster.
#1 Williams #2 Bagnet #3 Rypien OR someone they add after camp either as a vet backup or a prospect for the PS.
We need to stop looking at every signing as if the Bears think that person is the final piece of the puzzle. Most of these vet min guys are to fill the roster for OTAs and then TC. The bottom of the roster will churn all season again, and these guys will be moved in and out depending on who other team release as they churn their roster. Its fun to think of Poles running through the offices high fiving people because they signed Rypien but most likely Whalden was asked if Rypien would help get the OFF installed faster and he said sure. When they are running routes and calling plays in the OTAs, Williams will be working with one set of WRs and Rypien with another getting the language and routes down to all the OFF.

I'm perfectly find going with CW and Bagent if that is our QBs. If you want to bring in a veteran QB to help them, just hire a retired QB to follow them around and show them the ropes. That way it wouldn't count against the cap and you can pick and choose who that is.

This ^^^^^^
We are putting every single move the Bears make now, under a microscope - and over reacting to the max. It seems nuts to me.
The players they sign for less than say 4-5 mil are camp bodies only. They are on a list of players the Poles and his staff have compiled of guys they liked or saw once in a practice or on tape. Most of these guys got very little in guarantees, but they sign for access to training staff and for the chance to try again to get a full season in either active or PS. Everyone (except for fans apparently) knows these guys are roster churn. This is like when the Bears offer futures contracts when the season is done and everyone throws their arms in the air. They are all just JAGs. Every team does this.

+1 And Bears fans SHOULD know this... it happens every single year. I think a highly contagious insanity-virus has Chicago Bears fans running around like lunatics shouting the sky is falling in Chicago. It always has been an emotional fan base (love that) but now it is a crazy fan base of lunatics. We finally get all of these great things going in our favor (like once in decades now) and the fans choose to lose their minds worrying.
We have the #1 pick of this entire draft class - one that is more rich in QB1 talent than we have seen in a long long time. As if THAT were not enough, we ALSO have a top-10 pick in this draft. Both. And the team has some really good young ascending players added. Personally, I love what we got (already) for our 2nd round pick this year - Sweat. Last year's D.J. Moore trade by Poles was a masterful acquisition... and paired with Keenan Allan and Kmet and the new TE, Gerald Everette... the list goes on and on. Yet the fans are leaping off the ledges or downright pissed. Lunatics.

I don't feel like that's what we were doing talking about QB2 but I completely agree.
