Damn, Allen has a 23mil cap hit! 7mil more than DJ Moore. In this case, wish we took some WR from the market, younger, still left with 4th pick.
Thats it, we are out of money, no DE for us. WTF GM
LOL Alex...we still have $35 mill in cap space. I'd imagine they'll do some sort of extension with Allen...3/4 years with the 3rd/4th years essentially being void years.

The CAP hit being reported is kinda fishy. Normally the trading team eats any bonus money structured into the current deal which means the Bears should only be on the hook for 18M. I'd look at extending him after the season for something like 2/22M with 14M guaranteed and a 12M signing bonus if he keeps his current stats.
I think he will age well as a saavy vet who knows the route tree very well and will be the WR2. I could see Poles trading 1.9 into the late teens (15-18) & get back a 2nd in the high 30 or lower 40's. The elephant in the room now is JF and what kind of return you get for him after the due diligence on all QB targets is done. I think we might sign a cheaper edge guy and call it an off season until the draft.
He's got a $5 mill roster bonus coming on the 17th...thats why its a $23 mill cap hit for us.

Yeah but bonuses normally negotiated by the original team stay there.

Please explain to me how we still have 35mil. I hope you are not looking at spotrac. Need to take away 12-13mil for draftees, you down to 22. And still a bunch of contracts not counted in, like Byars. So now u down 10. So, whats that LOL all about?
Signing bonuses do...I don't think thats true when it comes to roster bonuses.
Correct, that's why Chargers made him available. They were on the hook for the roster bonus shortly.
Yup I stand corrected. Barring an extension, the only way to lessen the CAP hit if necessary would be to convert say 12M of his 18M into a bonus & add 2 void years. So the CAP hit could be 15M.
I wonder how the Keenan Allen signing will affect the draft now? We could see that trade down now. Maybe an edge guy and ?
My guess would be an edge at #9 or a trade down to the mid-1st and then LOL still an edge.
But if Nabors or Odunze are there at 9, I could see Poles still taking him. Allen is probably a 2 year rental.
This is my initial thought also. Minnesota traded with Texans last night for extra first rd pick, 28th I think. They now have 2 first round picks. Since they desperate for qb wonder if pick 9 to Vikings for some picks might work.
Bad trade unless they extend him. 1 year $18m rental aging WR for a 4th in a deep WR class, just not a good decision IMO.
I hate to be a downer (glad to see we signed him), but yeah. 32 years old and we gave up a 4th. Now we would not have gotten a player like him for a 4th but he is short lived. Looking at the positive side of it for sure, but this rose does have thorns.
But at least for a year or two, we have two legit WRs
many WR take a year to gel, some don't. I see this as taking pressure off rookie WR and let rookie gain confidence, let alone DJ And K Allen will help both QB and WR rooms.
As stellar a prospect as MHJ is, you don't pass up a great QB prospect for a great WR prospect.
Ever
There have been tons of stellar QB prospects. They are far less predictable than MHJ. He is going to be sensational, unless he breaks a knee. I am confident I have a Super Bowl ready offense in 2025 with Fields plus those 3 receivers. Maybe also with Williams, but not as confident until I see him on the field in a Bears uniform.
I do not see this happening, but me in my 60s would look good throwing to them 3. 😉
