IOL of Jenkins/Bates/Davis - is Poles done there?

Did you know that the Bears flew eight people, including Eberflus , out to Oregon for their Pro Day? I assume the main attraction is JPJ, but I saw that Bo Nix looked really good. Franklin is a pretty good WR, too.  I’m trying to curb my enthusiasm, but this sure looks encouraging, doesn’t it? My dream is he trades down to #16 with the Seahawks, and Hawks take Bo Nix.

I have watched Oregon sports for years now (I have family in Portland and they got me hooked on the Ducks).  The top QBs in this draft are all less than perfect - including Caleb Williams.  Bo Nix could be a solid NFL starting QB.  There's a lot to like about how he has matured and improved over the years (he's a 5th year player).  I like his throwing mechanics a lot.  If the Bears pivot and keep Fields, I'd love to see the Bears take Nix in this draft in a trade down where we draft Marvin Harrison Jr.  Nix wouldn't be an instant starter and there wouldn't be the pressure to make him the instant starter - I think he and Fields would co-exist better than Caleb (immense pressure there to start CW day-1).  And of course we wouldn't have the Caleb Circus coming to town (his entourage "the Caleb Camp" led by his dad).   Could Nix bust?  Sure, just like Caleb can.  It is going to be fascinating to revisit this 2024 draft three years down the line.  I suspect we will be surprised by which QB actually does prove to be best out of this year's draft.  

Thought Poles might go after Andre James in FA but he didn't.

My best guess now is that Poles sees Bates as his starting C this year and he will draft Graham Barton in the 3rd or 4th to take over C next season.

He seems to want a vet C with his rookie QB in 2024.

I would take Nix in the trade down, too.  I can’t see anything wrong with him. He has 60+ college starts and good football IQ, so may be NFL ready sooner than most.
