I think we may be done IN SUBSTANCE. He may get us a few backup types before it's over but I don't think anyone that is better than what we already have.
BIH, I have to believe Poles will add talent. Caleb Williams is roadkill if we roll without (at least) a significant upgrade for when Jenkins does his annual IR vacation, and Nate Davis does his Nate Davis imitation (he was bad). We have the backup from Buffalo who played 35 snaps last season (Bates). I look at "the best of the rest" and see guys like Larry Borom and Ja'Tyer Carter (both graded out in the low 40's blocking... that's bad). LOL, of course we have the guy who never played American football until 3 years ago... from Nigeria. I guess there's that.
I do believe Poles won't jeopardize his career drafting Caleb and putting him behind the OL that's on the roster right now. I think he will add at least one solid IOL guy. He's committing GM-suicide if he doesn't.
Wow, that’s a strong statement. As far as free agency, he’s already made his pick at center and don’t expect another except maybe Conner. Spotrac says Conner would cost $13.5M. As far as guard, he sat around yesterday as 5 went off the board at $10M and up.
Turning to the draft, I see two possibilities: (1) Draft a tackle at #9 to replace Brax, or (2) trade down to draft JPJ or .

What else is there?
A few weeks ago I was looking over the OL guys in this draft and there were some OT guys who looked like they could be absolute studs at G. And we see this a lot with college players getting moved inside once they are in the NFL. That might be an option for us. We could end up with a fast athletic G that way.

How would that work? Are you using #9 to draft a guard? Or are you trading down and drafting a guard? JPJ is quite able to play guard, or shift to center if Bates is not as good as projected.

Poles is almost certainly going to trade down to get more picks. Feels like there are lots of holes to fill and Poles has shown a penchant for filling through the draft as well as identifying later round O Line talent.

Do you think he’s trading down even if Nabers/Odunze are available at #9?
If that happened, there would be an uproar around here.
I would wait to see whether he gets JPJ or Thomas plus a second round pick. Anything less than that would be cause for me to join the chorus.

In a logical world, that would happen. Let’s see what actually happens

With the few picks he has, I am starting to think he would

No, I wouldn't draft a G at #9 - ever. I'm talking about in a trade down situation where we might get one of the better WRs in a first round trade down, and with a 2nd round pick go C or (depending upon the player) get a G or OT who might be viewed as a stellar G at the NFL level. It just depends upon how the draft breaks for the Bears and how they move around in this draft. My only point is that there could be a T that the Bears see as a stellar G in our offense.

I was thinking about this today (admittedly, the thinking thing is dangerous for me), and anyway, I thought about how it would be for Poles if his "precious" generational quarterback (whom fans revere already as this great monumental acquisition) - goes out and gets the ever-loving crap beat out of him on gamedays due to a crap OL... like we've seen here in Chicago too many times - Poles will need to go into a witness protection program. Can you just picture it when Jenkins does his yearly exit, the new C looks like a backup quality guy that he was at Buffalo, and 'ole Nate Davis does the turnstile thing again this year... and Caleb is running for his life (you know, like we often see here in Chicago with QB1's). Holy moly Poles seat is gonna get hot fast here. But maybe the "experimental" International dude from Nigeria will save the day. It could happen. Right?
EDIT: The guy in the International program has only played football for 3 years... Pop Warner kids can have more experience. LOL.

Okay, we are on a similar track. But I’m taking JPJ instead of a tackle. And I only do the trade down if Odunze/Nabers are gone before #9.
