I dunno. I still don't get this. Monty was good and he was familiar with the offense. I think he left on a 6M contract to the Lions? And we bring in Swift who has to learn the system (not really an issue) for 8M and we lose a 5th. I'm calling this a step back. Maybe even. Not sure why we did this.
I was disappointed to hear the breakdown on him from the Philly reporter on CHGO the other day. He threw a fair amount of cold water on the signing.
Said Swift had a really good (and healthy) year last season but Eagles saw that as a one-off not likely to be repeated (he was hurt a good part of his first 3 years in the league with Detroit).
Also said he was awful in pass pro which supposedly is something the Bears value highly in their RBs.
He was even harsher on the Byard signing and basically said he doesn't have much gas left in the tank.
Not really impressed by Poles moves so far...
I would rather have D’Onta Foreman than Swift. Run him inside (like Monty) and have Herbert run the sweeps. Would have also saved some of Poles money.
Other teams get the premier free agents, while Poles picks up guys like Swift, Bates, Byard, Owens, etc.

I can kinda understand the Swift signing. They didn't want to stretch for Barkley (I think they should have) and the RB market was robust this FA. The draft also sucks at RB this year which also pushed prices up. Every team knows this draft class looks weak at the position.
The Byard thing there's zero excuse for with Poles. There were a dozen starting caliber safeties available, most of whom are younger than Byard. He was the best he could do? Jumping the gun on Sunday no less?

The only problem with that idea is it gives the D a big hint at what to expect.
The moves may make more sense when we see the finished 2024 roster, and the regular season games are played. Or not. But for now I'm trying to just sit back and watch the next few months unfold before I get too worked up (positive or negative).
I wish we had kept Monty. Good guy and a good player. I am not sure he really wanted to stay here, but maybe he did. But I figure he is gone now. We can't change the past. I do like the Swift signing - a lot. He will be a good fit here.

It's as close to a Taylor Swift signing as Poles could get

LOL, and hopefully the guy can be a better RB than Taylor... but being the Bears, 'ya never know about these things :-)
