Hall of fame coaching and player talent around Patrick Mahomes who is also a Hall of Fame level talent. Is this a trick question?
QBs make the coaches. Who was Andy before Mahomes was there? Dude was consider the biggest choke artist. Yes he has an aging TE who will go to the hall of fame but outside of him. His team leads the league in drops.
So one good player who is getting up there and the rest nobodies.
Yeah I know the arguments -- familiar with BOTH the "Fields just needs a better team around him" and "it was the OCs fault" mantras.
San Fran just built the best team you could possibly build. Had an excellent D, star coaching, 4 elite offensive weapons and STILL didn't with the SB even with a QB who is way better than Fields is right now.
Here's the simplified QB Decision Tree:
Is your QB a ~ top-7 starter? YES ----> Sign him to a $50m AAV deal NO ----> Move on
I think this overstates things a bit. Most teams often don't have other options given their situations. Sometimes you just have to make do with what there is available. Maybe things align and you'll get lucky.
The thing that frustrates me about the current situation is the Bears aren't actually in a situation like that. We're not a team hoping we can sign Kurt Cousins, trying to recycle Wilson's career, or using a late draft pick on a QB everyone else passed on. Maybe if we were, and didn't have options, we could stick with JF and see where it goes. But we're not in that situation and we have a chance and an incredible prospect, and yet many Bears fans want to pass on that on the slim chance that JF suddenly improves to become a tier 1 QB.
Knowing all us Bear fans luck. We ALL finally get on board with C.Will as our new QB then his Dad comes out and says he will only play for 1 of 2 teams and the Bears are not one of them.
Would that not be a kick in the face? HAHAH I secretly expect this but hope for the sunny SB with C.Will holding up the trophy in a Bears uni dream.
