Falcons are waiting to see what happens with Cousins, but I still think that’s Fields most likely landing spot.
They seem hot after getting Cousins. Don't know their cap sitch.
For a team that has the money to pay him, he's a no-brainer over Fields IMO. He's a better QB and he doesn't cost you any draft picks.
Obviously there's no teams right now who are enamored with Fields "potential". So much for the theory that he just needs a different OC and receivers. 31 other teams don't seem to feel that way.
I am not going the dead horse route with you. I’ll just say it remains to be seen how he plays with the Falcons if they pick up Nabers or Odunze.
Hoge pointed out something interesting yesterday that I didn't even consider. As a Covid-hangover effect, this draft has a record LOW number of underclassmen in it. Lots of college players have taken advantage of the covid season rules to maintain NCAA eligibility for 5 or even 6 years thus the late rounds of this draft are gonna have less talent in them than usual. Doesn't mean there won't be some good finds there but a 5th this year is probably more equivalent to a 6th or 7th in typical drafts due to reduced underclassmen numbers.
But yeah it sure would be nice if we could trade Fields. His market is looking weaker by the day. There's very little smoke out there that any team is even seriously interested. Feels like nothing is gonna happen until after FA starts and we see where Cousins and Mayfield land. Pretty disappointing...
I know. I'd be mighty happy if the Bears can get a 2nd round pick for Fields, but it may be a 3rd. It is disappointing. Regarding the Covid effect (and some of the portal guys) on the draft, I noticed a number of players who are so old it's like they are missing the first contract age and are nearly at a 2nd contract age... but obviously they have missed those NFL developmental years entirely. A team can still get a good player there, but he (maybe) he comes with a bit of truncated NFL career. Not a big deal, but it is a residual effect on some of these guys.
Jayden Daniels is just 1.5 yrs younger than Fields and JF is entering season 4 as a pro.
If the top-3 WRs go in the first 8, I really hope JJ McCarthy is still there. Maybe Vegas or Pitt will want to move up for him.
There is a lot to like about JJ McCarthy at the NFL level. He could end up a decent starter. Three years from now it will be interesting to revisit this QB draft and see who actually transitioned well - and who didn't. All of the top QBs in this draft, including Caleb, have issues that need worked on at the NFL level. LOL, but that said, I have watched all of these top guys, not named Caleb Williams, trying to convince myself that the Bears could do a tiny trade down and get a gem in one of them - but over and over again I can't deny there is a significant talent dropoff from Caleb to the rest of the herd. Caleb isn't perfect, but he's about as perfect as you are going to find in a college QB coming to the NFL. Maybe even the Chicago Bears can develop this one (but who knows... they are so clueless on offense that the jury is still out on that one).
He will be a challenge to ruin. I think we are up to it though.

That's his market RIGHT NOW, David. No one seems to too excited about the possibility you are stating.
It was always going to depend on Cousins, BMayfield and Wilson. All three of those (even with their flaws) are better than Fields. Wilson is going to sign for cheap to stick it to the Broncos. Whenever Wilson gets cut, the QB market will begin to shake out.

They know that Poles must trade Fields. That puts Poles at a disadvantage. There is no certainty about his ceiling if he is put in a better situation than the Bears provided. Those are the two factors I see.

Bo Nix & Penix are just 1 year younger.
This is a big reason I am hopeful in keeping JF1 w/haul and that he turns out to be a top 10 QB. He is still so young. I get many ppl's intrepedation, that most QBs starting in a bad system that dont show in the 1st 3 years never really recover (the list of 1st rd QBs is long). I also think that JF1 has shown some amazing throws after escaping ala young Randal Cunningham. I think he has the mental makeup to come out of this and reach his ceiling. Then again, i am a homer and this would be the best case scenario for the Bears. Give the kid a pocket and let him show what he can do. Back in NEs run, the best way to rattle the GOAT was to blow up the Center and collapse the pocket from the interior. Justin has had that his entire career. There will be more young QBs to draft in the coming couple years if it doesnt pan out and there should be a solid team around that rookie if Poles & Ian keep drafting the way they have thus far. Ive seen strong QB draft classes predraft turn out to be lousy. I guess I am crazy.

But MP, you don't understand. If we build a super team around him. He will get us a Super Bowl win.
We just need.
#2 and #3 WR An elite Oline An elite TE A good OC A top 5 defense

Why does Poles need to trade him?
Poles can build that 1985 Super team around him like you've been asking.

Fields isn't the problem. Everyone else is. /s
I understand your doubt and therefore your hyerbole re needs to make JF1 a winnner. Who knows what teams feel? Everything is purely speculation or purposely 'leaked' for leverage anything else would be undermining an NFL teams position.
My point is the best case scenario for the Bears is they keep JF1, Fields develops into a better than all the QBs in this draft class, Poles gets a huge haul allowing him to fill many holes by promising young players, SB contender for years to come. I can dream cant I? So many things can happen Caleb a bust, JF1 kills on another team, Caleb and Fields both end up a more fumble prone Mariotta, Caleb develops into a top QB & JF1 regresses. It would be nice to have more draft capital in rounds 1-4 and I see Poles trading back at some point to get it.
