H/J, CHGO(same/not same) NBC Sports Chicago. All of them are basically saying the same thing, it's an easy choice to go CWill, except for Chicago media/fans. And the idea of a 2nd rd pick is looking high end; but w/only 3 teams looking at him.
He's not seen as this stud who's expected to be great at the next team, that is only talk by people in Chicago.
Yep, I've been watching the same sources. Poles going out of his way to make it clear he's on the block is a sign the phone isn't exactly blowing up with great offers.
Reality check time for the Fields crew -- he isn't worth what you think he is. Most teams aren't excited about a guy who can't throw for 3000 yards even if he can run like a deer. It's a passing league.
Been thinking about the, you have to build around him; he wasn't given a chance talks. Bears QB's best seasons: Rex Grossman 3100 yards, 23 tds' 20 ints. downfalls as to why we wanted to get rid of him, health, low comp% and turnovers. Kyle Orton 2900 yards, 18 tds, 12 ints. downfall to few td's, didn't push the ball game manager *went on to have multiple 3000+ yard seasons Jay Cutler 3600 yards, 27 tds, 26ints, downfall to careless with the ball. Mitch Trubsiky 3200 yards 24 tds 12 ints, downfall coach didn't like him, seemed limited Justin Fields 2500 yards 16 tds 9 ints. OMFG keep him build around this stud! *wat
Cutler was the only one to have multiple high level weapons and a competent O minded coach. None of the rest had it as good as DJ Moore/Kmet.

Apparently he is only giving his medicals to the teams he's meeting w/with at the combine or private workouts. Basically his group said, if you don't have a shot of drafting me you don't need this. He does have a point; even if it's odd. Between this and the no agent is giving me some R Smith vibes though. Just feels like everything will be a thing w/C-Will even if they shouldn't be.
Yeah, he said he'd do a physical with every team he takes a visit too. This isn't the biggest of deals to me. Like you touched on...the Dad may be a bigger pain in the ass. Dude knows business, and there may come a point where Caleb is gonna have to tell him what HE wants...but yeah...I'm already seeing how that second contract negotiation is gonna go.
I was reading that Jayden Daniels impressed Poles and the staff in his interview. Of course we don't know this for sure but he is of one of the top QB's so at least we have fodder to drive us nuts lol.
If Ryan Poles drafts Jayden Daniels I'm gonna kick him in the nuts.
I would keep Fields over JD and you all know I'm not in favor of keeping Fields.
That's an interesting take. I think Williams is going to be a head case to deal with, I really do.
We'll see. From coaches perspectives, none of them have said anything bad...going back to his high school coach. Now, I take that with a grain of salt...but there hasn't been a hint of a whisper that Caleb is difficult. The Dad and his advisers may be another issue...but in reality, thats gonna be the case with any super star QB. You're gonna have EXTRA to deal with when it comes to them. You don't think the Chiefs have to deal with extra BS with Mahomes and Kelce? I'll take the extra BS if it means the kid is a super star.

It is tough when you slog through decades with so much failure, especially on offense - and with the quarterback woes in particular. You want to see a success so badly that you lose your mind. We have pretty much lost our minds by now waiting for this to change.
I'm going to be especially sick if the Bears draft Caleb and he turns out to be a nut case. Or if his family turns this into an embarrassing circus distraction for the team. Or even if the guy ends up some other distraction like Colin Kaepernick. I'm not saying CW is any of these things. Just saying some of this stuff we are hearing about in recent weeks does make me uneasy that the guy COULD be a nutcase.

The sad thing is you see it here as well. Every meaningful stat shows that Fields is not a good QB but let's build a 1980's super team around him. As you also pointed out. Outside of Cutler. Fields had it better than everyone else yet can't even produce a 4k offense in todays modern NFL let alone 3k.
But "Total yards" matter just as much as passing yards. No, Lamar Jackson is 1-4 in the playoffs. Let's get that out the way.
The whole point of the trade down last year was to give Fields his last chance. We got him a RT and a top 10 WR. His QBR went up by only 1%. We got the luxury of the #1 overall pick again in a much better QB class. Yet some how people are ok with subpar QB play. 1980's football doesn't work in the modern NFL.

Its still better to go with the unknown than to stick with mediocrity which is Fields.
We're not talking a Cousins/Dak QB with Fields. We're talking a bottom tier QB who is in the bottom third of every meaningful stat.

My point is that I really really really don't want to experience another failure. I am hoping the Bears can ferret out if this Williams is the best QB for us to draft. I'm not wanting to rehash the past but look to the present and future. The past is the past and we can't change the past. But - this decision that the Bears are getting ready to make will determine if we (finally) get relief from the years of under-performing teams and become a good team. I just want them to get this right. And that's what we all want here.
