Yet another Williams vs JF article. This focuses on what I believe to be the most important QB trait. Quick processing. The author believes Williams has it and JF does not.
Talking about crazy, remember a guy named Mike Ditka? He sent all his 1999 draft picks and two of the first three picks in the 2000 draft to move up from 12th to the 5th overall pick to select Ricky Williams. Now that was crazy.
Sure was, especially for a RB. But, sometimes I think coach Ditka did it just to be in the news.
Great player. Definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, he just wasn't very good at coaching. I think one of the worst moves the family did was to screw Jim Finks and hire Ditka behind his back. After Finks had pretty much built the great roster that would eventually win the 1985 Super Bowl. Finks left as a result (Hall of Fame GM) and Ditka pretty much ran the team into the ground after that SB. Eventually his own players grew to hate him and he was fired. He did great harm to that New Orleans Saints franchise after that. The Ricky Williams move killed that franchise for awhile. Ditka seems like a ice guy though.

CW definitely has elite processing skils. Personally I think that is his best skill that he brings to the table here. He has other great attributes, but that mental processing is what the great ones have.

We will see, tbh i dont trust anything regarding draft picks before I see them on the field. Its not my job to evaluate them. I am excited to maybe see a better QB than Fields in Bears uni. Believe Fields is a decent QB, with a couple of awesome traits, but as is he is now borderline starter in this league. Maybe not even that soon.

There's a lot of truth there. Ultimately it truly is on the team to properly evaluate these guys. The jump to the NFL is a big one that most QBs can't successfully do. I do find that amazing. For years I have watched guys do great & incredible things in college, and then in the NFL it just never shows up. Frustrating. I wonder what it would feel like as a Bears fan to finally have an elite franchise QB? I can't imagine how good that would feel.

I have a theory on this, and since it is my theory, I'm pretty sure it's wrong, but what the hell...
I think that there are many more NFL QBs that graduate college than actually succeed in the NFL. What I mean is they are able to be great QBs in the NFL, but then they are put in bad positions. Whether it be OCs that do no change what they do to fit the QB, or inadequate protection (Carr), or weapons that are just not very good. I think plenty of them are more than able to be good if not great QBs and just get messed up. Once your confidence goes, and you play scared, you might as well go home. Now, there are also plenty that just simply are not good pocket QBs or can't see and process the whole field, or the mental toughness (my votes for when a successful college QB does NOT have the ability to play in the NFL) but I do believe that there are many more successful capable college QBs that actually end up being successful.
I also think JF falls into this category. I do think he is success capable. And with him, I do not think his confidence has left him yet, despite his lack of success. His being traded (assuming that happens) is not going to help his confidence, but I really believe he is strong mentally. More than most.

Sadly it appears JF doesn’t. I most certainly hoped he did, but nothing showed it to be true. If the Bears stick with Fields, that’s fine as they’re far more knowledgeable than I.

It really seems to be the difference maker between good and great.
