Mahomes keeps proving us other wise. This is the first year in his career he had a top 10 defense. This is also the worst offense the chiefs have ever had. Lead the league in drop passes. Mahomes keeps proving why a super team isn't needed.
You put Fields on that 2024 Chief team and you think they win a Super Bowl?
You're leaving out important info and you know it. Last year the defense was middle of the field in both points and yards, but the offense was otherworldly ranked 1st in points and yards.
In 2020, when the Chiefs LOST the Super Bowl, they were ranked 6th in points and 1st in yards on offense. The defense was 10th in points and 16th in yards.
In 2019, when they WON the Superbowl, the offense was 5th in points and 6th in yards, and the defense was 7th in points and 17th in yards.
In 2018...the offense was otherworldly again, 1st in points and yards. But the defense was 24th in points and 31st in yards and they lost in the conference championship.
This year the defense was 2nd in BOTH points and yards. The offense was 15th in points and 9th in yards. Anyone trying to claim that the Chiefs defense was not a major factor in that teams success and that it was just "all Mahomes" is not being serious.
So to recap, Mahomes has had his defense in the top 10 in important categories before when he's won Super Bowls. He's also LOST and not made it to the Super Bowl when his offense has been otherworldly and his defense was not very good. This once again CONFIRMS the idea that you need a WHOLE TEAM to win it all.
No I got back mid Tuesday. The rolling green hills are something unbelievable. Sheep everywhere.
So much beauty there.
We took a black cab tour in Belfast and I was amazed how there was so much divide between the north and Republic of Ireland. There is still a functional wall dividing the Catholics and Protestants and the gates close every night! Landed in Dublin, drove and stayed in Belfast for 2 nights. The went to Derry for the day, stayed in far north Northern Ireland for the night. Then drove to the west coast stayed there for a few days then cut right through central back to Dublin.
I recommend everyone with a little bit of Irish heritage to go there. Such beautiful people everywhere we went.
Can you clarify? Did you mean the sheep were beautiful?
Seriously though, my son just went there and is going again. He loves it. Maybe it's the spell of the sheep...
LMAO!!!! I wasn't aware Eli Manning played defense. Ya learn something new every day!
The New York Giants won Super Bowl XLVI despite having a defense that finished the 2011 season ranked No. 27 in the NFL.
That sure is an elite defense....
That year Tom Brady threw for over 5000 yards and 39 td's. That shitty Giants defense held Brady to under 300 yards passing, sacked him twice, hit him 8 times, and only gave up 17 points. That defense, despite what it was ranked, was LOADED. It had JPP, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck at defensive end and a tremendous secondary.
But sure...it was Eli Manning and his 1 passing TD in the first quarter that won that game...

Stat heads and film watchers will like it, some of us will see good and some will see digging for justification.
"While I don’t think Caleb, despite his ability to elude the rush, will ever match Mahomes in the sack avoidance department (and that skill, more than almost any other, is perhaps what truly makes Mahomes the GOAT), Caleb’s ability to create for himself and exploit breakdowns in the defense gives him the upside of another Hall of Fame quarterback, one who personally terrorized the Chicago Bears more than any other."

This is a really interesting article on JF vs a new QB. Definitely worth the read.
A short excerpt. Mostly just saying that they need to be absolutely sure before they make a decision, but much more and deeper.
The Bears have gone for years without ever having a passer who actually showed he was developing and improving his game. Numbers show Fields has done it, though not to the huge extent needed to win with the team he had. He did it despite a rather shaky offensive system and coordinator, the second failed offensive system and coordinator he had to endure.

I laughed at the headline, as”absolutely sure” is not possible with either Fields or Williams.
No, neither one. But with Fields they should have a pretty good idea of whether or not he can get better. I think he can for sure on a faster release and decision making. What I question and wonder about is can he process the defense and the field better and faster. I think you can improve there, but not as much as the physical stuff. The team should have a good feel for if they think he can or he can't. He is much less an unknown than someone from college.

It has been a long time since Ive been on. Came on to see what the takes were on here. Of course there is 78 pages on this topic! (And maybe other similar subject threads). A lot of fans seem to want to draft a new QB and I wondered if they were mostly younger, not having seen decades of 'cant miss' prospects become busts or just be mediocre? It is a tough call any way you look at it. Fields doesnt have the stats to backup passing on a top QB. However, he is only 24 yrs old. If you've watched every snap like I have, you would realize he's improved despite all of the definciencies he's had on offense. He has had some big-time Wow plays. IMHO he still has a very high ceiling and his character & work ethic are a known quantity. He has the physical traits height, arm, mobility. For me, I would have a real tough time if JF1 went on to another team & became a top QB1 in the league and the Bears got a lesser QB. I like the idea of trading down, if there are teams that want to trade a bevy of picks for their QB, and building a team around JF1. I think Shane Waldron will prove to be a tremendous asset along with a top WR (draft/FA or both) and strength up the middle on the Oline (C) to give him a pocket, I believe JF1 can be the guy.
