This is what I'm afraid of if we keep Fields. Dak is going to be getting another record breaking contract when he's an average QB at best. Jerry Jones is ruining the market again for QBs.
Thats a whole lot of assumptions based off of one season 4 years in the making...
Just going off the stats he had this season. He is so far better than any Bear QB we ever had if you go with one season.
By that measure I'm shocked you're not screaming from the roof tops that Poles trade for Jameis Winston...after all, he threw for 5100 yards in a season once, which would make him FAR AND AWAY better than any Bears QB we ever had...right? See the problem with that line of thinking?

Jameis Winston is a talented QB but a horrible game manager who had a super team around him. Just cause you have 5100 yards doesn't excuse the 30 ints you did that year. Notice how Patrick Mahomes changed his game style this year compared to others. He knows you have to be more of a game manager when you don't have super talent around you. Something Brady did as well with bad teams. Wintson was a product of his environment. Just another reason a super team wouldn't work for Justin Fields.
Brady took that Wiston team to a Super Bowl victory in his first year.
I hate to say it but yes I'm warming to the idea but only if we can get MHJ by giving NE Justin plus our first.
And I'm just accepting that the Bears have a lot to weigh here as far as the BEST option going forward. All of the options have positives and negatives. Consequently, I'm fine trusting this present front office to get it right this time around. I'm not blaming them for past regime's failures at getting the QB right here. Let's hope that whatever they finally decide (Fields or draftee) that they get it right.
My biggest concern with keeping Fields is his contract. 43.9 million a year after his rookie contract. It most likely will be higher after the 2024 season. Do you really have faith in him to pay him top 10 QB money?
When you start paying a QB that kind of money and he's average at best. Which is what most of us want with Fields. A Tier 2 QB. It will hurt this team as we would have less resources to build around.
Williams would have a estimate 40 million 4 year contract. This will by us time and also allow us to build a much better roster around him. This would be a much different story if we didn't have the #1 overall pick. That's how much that pick can change everything.

I just posted a thread on Jarrett Payton's interview of Kevin Warren. They go into exactly this in some depth. And I'm getting more confident that regardless of the decision made on what to do in the draft (and especially in the first 2 or 3 rounds), it will be the best possible choice.

I never compared Winston to Mahomes. I was making the point that basing an opinion on 1 year of stats, and in your case, yardage, is silly. Super Team is also probably a strong term to use to describe a team that went 7-9 with a defense ranked 29th in the league. I'm also not so sure how much of a "game manager" Mahomes was this year. He threw the most interceptions of his career this year.

It would be top 10 for about 2 seconds. Next year Dak, Goff, Tua, and Love are free agents. The year after Trevor Lawerence, Geno and Purdy are free agents.
