Trubisky did hit a Pro Bowl for his 2018 season throwing for 3,223 yards. Its crazy that going from Pick #1 overall to Pick #2 overall the success rate of a 4k pass almost goes up 50%. That's real data and most teams that pick at #1 are bottom tier teams or give up huge draft capital to get them. We're not a bottom tier team and don't have to give up any draft capital. Bears have a real #1 WR and a top 10 receiving TE. Also having the #9 overall pick that can get a game changing WR or TE if one falls.
I'm not asking for a Mahomes. I know those are once in a generation and we passed him up for Trubisky. I would like an Allen, Burrow, Herbert, Love, Stroud.
The last QB the Bears picked in the top 5 was Jim McMahon who won us a Super Bowl.
If you don't attempt to draft a QB high. The Bears will continue to be mediocre throughout the Super Bowl era. Bear football doesn't work in todays NFL. Strong run game and elite defense doesn't get you far. The 1986 Bears were a better defense than the 1985 Bears but without Jim McMahon. They lost. He isn't even an elite QB but goes to show you how important the QB position is.
Love was drafted 26th and sat the bench for 3 years, including being inactive for every game his rookie year. You want to draft that guy at #1?
He's a 4k passer, has won in the playoffs. threw for 30+ TDs, Will most likely play 80+ games with the packers, Will most likely be in Pro Bowl in future.
Love is better than anything this franchise has had. I prefer a Allen or Burrow but I wouldn't cry if I got love.

Far too much digital ink is being spent on the whole #1 pick and it's average value in history. All drafts are not equal. Some have a lot of good prospects others a bunch of duds. The important thing is the player who is going to be the #1 prospect and how he stacks up with picks across other drafts. Williams based on his performance and tape would be the 1st, or near the 1st, of every QB pick in the last 10 drafts compared to their tape coming out of college. I don't know if he is the best prospect since Luck, but he is definitely up there. You just can't pass on something like that.
I really don't get the weird contrarian vibe when it comes to Williams. It's likely he got a little overhyped the year before but now there's this strange backlash against him that goes way over the top. Certain people out there will watch his tape and pick out the tiniest problems and blow them up to crazy proportions while ignoring or disparage all the other incredible stuff he does.

Thats a whole lot of assumptions based off of one season 4 years in the making...

Could say the same thing about a lot of other QB's...

Those are good points. I think some of the reason for this is that a lot of the fanbase was so hoping Fields was the guy. They like him and really wanted him to succeed. It's just a bitter pill to swallow regarding him not being the guy. But I think a lot of us (me included) are processing through this. Anyway, I think that's some of the reason for the "weird contrarian vibe" thing and the backlash. But you do make good points about Williams. I just hope the Bears accurately identify the BEST guy (Fields or another guy, including Caleb) and get that guy. I'm thinking they will probably come to the conclusion Caleb is the best and they draft him.

Just going off the stats he had this season. He is so far better than any Bear QB we ever had if you go with one season.

I don't understand what Fields has done to keep him over the chance of a better QB. We all have seen the presence of Fields in the pocket and he missed a bunch of open reads. I don't think this will get better.
Even Trubisky played in the post season. It's just that question... why should we keep Fields. I like him, I wouldn't trade him if it wasn't for the #1 pick. Getting the chance to get the guy you want that looks like a great QB prospect is just a bigger chance.

Because feelings german.... That's all Bear fans have going for him.
When Mahomes defense is losing behind 28+ points. That is legit. He is 17-13 with winning... Football is not a team sport no more. Its QB... I've stated Mahomes is a legend with his 50+ TD season. Many here said it was a fluke. Guess who is the new dynasty?

It's still a team game. A good team can still go to the post season without an elite QB. Winning a Playoff game is something different.
Chiefs are a good team that added a Tier 1 QB over the Tier 2 QB they had. That allowed them to let him sit for 1 season. That has helped Mahomes for sure. At the end, he would still be who is without that 1 year.
If you can get late 1st or 2nd rounder for Fields would add much needed help to the roster. They could even think about getting more picks by trading down from #9 if there isn't a player they like.

Happens sometimes, I think it's media trying to find something to talk about; and b/c of social media people pick up on it and take it for more than what it really is. This didn't really happen until the NFL network and ESPN constant draft talk got fully ramped up in the early 00's.
