I don't think Williams is the guy either, but to be fair, lots of people do. Would be interesting to hear if he thinks there is a guy that is head and shoulders above Fields in the draft.
Of course but teams with elite QBs are not outliners. Meaning they have continue success. Rather that's owning the division for decades and a few super bowl visits vs a team that has to build an elite team up and has 2-3 year window do to contracts and salary cap.
You will always see the Bills, Chiefs, Bengals, and Ravens in the playoffs. Assuming no injuries to QB. Can't really say the same thing about Lions, Bears, Commanders, and Giants.
Cowboys have made many great teams. Paying Dak 40 million is what cost them a Super Bowl. You can't pay average QB's that money. He's 2-5 in the playoffs where he plays against other playoff teams. You put Josh Allen on that team and I'm willing to bet it would be a Chiefs vs Cowboy Super Bowl every year.
Not with Mike McCarthy as HC. And last I checked Dak didn't play defense.
Outside of this year. Mahomes never had a top 10 total defense in his career yet has a winning record when an opponent scores 28+ points on his defense.
So QBs do matter.
Dak is in the perfect system where he has a great oline, great wrs, great rbs throughout most of his career. Yet even that isn't enough for the cowboys to make it to the NFC Championship game. Dak isn't a Tier 1 QB. He's not even a Tier 2 QB who can lead his team to a Super Bowl. The fact he hasn't even went to an NFC Championship game since he became a starter with the weapons he has proves it.
Tier 1: Top QB who can make everyone better around him. Mahomes and Rodgers for example Tier 2: QBs with a perfect team that can win you a ring: Stafford and Purdy for example Tier 3: QBs even with the perfect situation around him can't do anything with it. Dak and Tannehill

I think all would agree QBs matter. For me at least, that is not the question. The question is, which QB will be a franchise QB for the Chicago Bears going forward.

Tonight I was watching Caleb's playing yet again. He is an incredible talent. He processes quickly. He really does have a canon for an arm. I have no clue as to how his play will translate to the NFL, but I've got to believe he will be pretty special if he lands on the right team - with good coaching and players around him that are solid. I wish he had more prototypical QB height but you can't have everything. If the Bears do choose to move on from Fields and Caleb is the guy they think is best then they'd better draft him and not dink around.
Listening to Caleb's interviews he seems like a good kid. Young guy so he is going to do/say some young guy things - he'd be an odd dude if he didn't. I think the negative stuff is just overblown. He has been under the spotlight in college so maybe he'll be more resilient in Chicago when he inevitably has to face criticism and heat at times (as any Bears QB does).
I like Drake Maye too. He will be compared unfairly to Trubisky due to them playing for the same college. But he is a lot better than Trubisky.

+1,000 Exactly, LOL, it's like saying water is wet. Yes it is important to have great players to be a great team. Players and coaches do matter - including your QB1 in particular. It takes a great team to win.

The real question should be this. What QB can lead the Bears to the Super Bowl and become our Tier 1 QB moving forward?
Anyone can be a franchise QB. Look at Cousins and Dak. Cousins pads his stats on weak teams but is horrible against good teams. Dak has the perfect system around him yet can't even make it to an NFC Championship game.
The sad thing is, both QBs would be the #1 QB in Chicago history... That's how bad our QB situation is.

OK, different words for same meaning.
Not really, Franchise QB is too vague. Anyone can be one. A Tier 1 QB are elite QBs.
