All this Caleb stuff about him being immature or fragile seems really overblown to me.
But it's up to Poles to vet all that. If he uncovers something really concerning in the interviews, then yeah maybe he pivots in a different direction. But I doubt it. I would wager a large amount of money right now that Caleb is the #1 pick and the Bears are taking him. It's gonna take something major to derail this train.
+1 And it just isn't uncommon for great pro athletes to be odd or high-strung. I figure a truly gifted coach understands how to work with all of these big-personalities. But I do agree with you that Poles needs to figure it out as far as his mental gears and draft accordingly.

Boy, that's risky MP. You know how the Bears look for almost choir boy kind of character and mental toughness. I'm not sure Williams is going to be their guy. This is definitely one to order popcorn, sit back and watch. I have no idea how this is going to come out.
Not risky at all.
All the signs point in that direction as does just simple logic.
Bears have actually done a great job of putting together a revamped offensive coaching staff. Pretty impressive bunch. These coaches aren't coming here to wreck their careers on a 1-year suicide mission to turn Fields into a good passer. Ryan Poles is not gonna hitch his future to a QB he didn't draft and who remains 4th best in his own division with only one year left on his contract.
The Bears wouldn't be putting out Justin Fields hype advertisement videos in January after a 7-10 season unless they were looking to trade him. They would be no point.
Poles missed on Carter and Stroud. That will be his legacy unless Bears are Super Bowl ready by 2025. If that happens, I’ll get on your bandwagon. If not, I’ll invite you to join mine.
Poles didn't miss on either of them. Stroud was long gone by time we picked and Carter didn't have the "Warren Sapp 2.0" season you kept on saying he was going to have. He was barely on the field, and Kobe Turner, who was drafted in the 3rd round, SMOKED him in production! I know you'll bring up Carters PFF score...but that doesn't help you win games...production does.
His legacy is he traded the #1 pick for a HAUL that included DJ Moore, All Rookie Team Member Darnell Wright, Bears Rookie of the Year, winner of NFC Defensive Player of the Week, Defensive Rookie of the Year Candidate Tyrique Stevenson, this years #1 pick which will likely be one of the most highly regarded QB's since Andrew Luck in Caleb Williams, and a 2nd round pick next year. Thats a HELLUVA legacy!!!
Yeah, he missed on both of them trading away the #1 pick. I’ll buy your legacy when the Bears are Super Bowl ready by 2025. That’s been my standard for Poles, and hasn’t changed. I hope Warren has the same standard.

LOL...whats it like to live in your world man? Neither of them were knowns back then. There were legit questions about both QB's and this was always seen as the better year to draft a QB. Poles would have been a FOOL to pass up on the trade he made and there isn't a person alive but you who would think otherwise. But you go on believing what you believe.

You didn't say you would bet that JF would be traded. You said you would bet that they would take Williams.

Part of the same thing, isn't it? They are changing QBs and Williams is by far the most likely pick to replace Justin.

Well, maybe but I don't think so. Saying they will pick a new QB is not very risky. Saying they will pick Williams is. I think there are issues with him that will probably keep the Bears from going with him.

Williams and Maye are both very different QBs in that Maye is more of a pure pocket passer and he sure looks like an incredible talent in that kind of offense. While Caleb seems more of a Mahomes type of guy who is also a great passer, but more mobile. I like both of them as being better than the rest in this QB class. But maybe the Bears prefer one or the other style QB better for the offense they want to run. Both could probably work for the Bears but one may be optimized for what they want to do. I think Caleb will check out okay as far as the non-football stuff goes. My gut feeling is that a lot of the stuff on social media and the podcast people is overblown or even downright inaccurate stuff. Rumors.

I'm not pushing the viewpoint of this content form the OurLads YT channel. Just that it is a relatively well known and respected organization on who are the top QB prospects in the draft. This guy raises serious questions on each of the top prospects.
Is it a given that we move on from Fields this year if we draft Williams? Maybe we grab Williams (or whoever) and let him sit a year. See what he looks like in training camp etc and make the Fields decision next year?
