Stats without context are just a way to support a position. What is behind those stats and understanding them is how you know what to fix. Stats just cause you to shoot the messenger. When you look at what they really mean, sometimes someone else deserves the shooting.
A lot of context missing from that. Year 1 Offense by Nagy designed for the Red Rocket as JF1 was supposed to sit. Thrown in and no change of offense. Year 2 purposely stripped team to get thru what Pace left behind. No defense. Awful O line and awful WRs with Mooney as WR1, St Brown as WR2. Getsy 1st yr play caller Year 3 Getsy OC still, 3rd straight yr of weakest in league at Center. Rookie RT, 2nd yr LT, Nate Davis awful, Tevon great when playing. Had Mooney at WR2 his worst season. While WR1 DJ had his best year yet as a pro. Defense sucked 1st 5 games.
So we need a Super Team to make him average?
Maybe just average team & coordinator to make him super.
I said a while ago that I didn't think there was an edge that was going to go in the top 10 based off of how the NCAA season was playing out at the time and the amount of QB's and WR's I thought would go in the top 10 plus Bowers. The performance Verse put on at the combine may change that...he's a guy I actually like a lot and thought he should have come out last year. Maybe he cracks it...but based on team needs around the end of the top 10, I think a couple of the offensive tackles go before him.
I read that Turner tested off the charts and he has the measurables/length that Poles seems to love.

Could be. Turner ran a 4.46 but weighed in 10 pounds lighter than Verse. Verse ran a 4.58 and had the same broad jump as Turner while being 10 pounds heavier. I think Turner is more of an OLB in a 3/4 scheme, while Verse is your traditional hand in the dirt edge guy. But it's probably a coin flip for NFL guys...I just have a preference for Verse.
Verse and Young are two reasons why I wouldn't mind seeing Poles trade back if the big 3 receivers are gone. You could probably trade back to 11, 12, or 13 and still end up with one of them. In Bruglers latest mock he has Turner going 14th and Verse going 19th.
If having an at least league average center instead of the league worst center, and a league average WR2 instead of one of the worst in the league is a "super team"...yeah...sure....we need a "super team".
Outside of Cutler. Fields has a better supporting cast than any Bear QB since the 2000's...

The point is that many people only like to use "context" one way. It never goes the other way when they are arguing a position they like.
First off EPA specifically tries to take in account a player's performance regardless of the play of the surrounding players. So making the claim that it was everyone else's fault is literally what the stat is filtering for. Additionally, while stats can sometimes be deceptive, when you have stat, after stat, after stat, that is bad it certainly means something. When you add up all the various stats, from EPA, QBR, Yards, 4th quarter performance, time to throw, fumbles, and so on, and they are all mediocre to bad, you can't just dismiss them and say the stats don't really mean anything. When they are almost all one way that's a definitive trend. This isn't people taking a stat or two and overemphasizing, or distorting them, to fit a narrative while ignoring others. This is a mountain of evidence that points to a relatively obvious conclusion.
