That's it in a nutshell, for me anyway. This is a great opportunity for both guys. I could see this going either way for them (staying or leaving the Bears). If they can pull off a good performance on Sunday, stacking it on top of the better performances in the last half of the season, then I think both guys could stay - even Luke Getsy. I know that's anathema to most every Bears fan, but it could happen if the team stacks another win with a solid offense performance. The flip side is also there and an embarrassing outing could still mean the broom comes out and folks get swept out of here.
I just got around to watching my recording of the Fiesta Bowl. Bo Nix threw for 257 yards and 4 TDs in the FIRST HALF. One thing he does much better than Fields is see the field and get the ball out fast. I’m sure he was at 2.5 seconds or less, and every throw was on the money.
I have done zero research yet (I refuse to start draft stuff until after the SB) so tell me....where will Nix go in the draft?
But if he drafts a bust it doesn't matter if the busted guy (Caleb) was a cheaper option. The new guy needs to at least have a floor at Fields' level, right? At least that's how I am thinking (LOL, I may not be right, but that's my thought). Poles won't look at only this last game but it could be important if it confirms the trend of upward play for Fields. Trends do matter. And of course if Fields has a bad game then that too will be factored in.
I heard a stat somewhere that the Packers defense has given up four season best performances this year including a perfect QBR to Mayfield and making Bryce Young and Danny Devito look like Dan Marino. Our secondary is littered with UDFA's and late picks... Fields better look good Sunday...
Yeah the Packers pass D blows but Fields also has struggled against zone. He needs to look good here.

I'm guessing Nix and Penix go in the lower 1/3rd of the first round. They both seem like similar tier QBs to me. Both are surrounded by an obscene level of supporting offense talent and have solid coaches. I wonder how well they will do without that support in the NFL. On the right team, with good coaches and great supporting talent they could be good starters. At least I think so. Neither will do anything at the NFL level without that support. Same with Caleb and Maye. It does look like Caleb Williams and Maye as the lone tier-1 guys, and maybe Nix and Penix are the "best of the rest" guys. I have watched a lot of Nix games because I do follow the Ducks each year. Love watching them play on offense.

I have watched Oregon games this year. Looking at these early mock drafts, I think they have Nix underrated. I put a lot of stock in the TD/INT ratio. His is 45/3. He gets the ball into the end zone and doesn’t throw interceptions. Not many things more important. Bears could probably get him in the second round and center in third.
One way to look at it. I have another. If Poles drafts his "QB", that gives him at least 3 new years of breathing room. If he stays with Fields, in worst scenario (not far from current reality) he gets one more year.
The new qb will also be cheap. The secret sauce is winning a SB with a first contract QB and build a great team around him
I posted a tweet in another thread that addresses that. It's really not the savings most think it is, especially when you consider that you'd get multiple players on cheap contracts at positions of need if you trade the pick and wouldn't have to spend that money in free agency. As it is the #1 picks salary year 1 would be more expensive than Fields salary next year.

Let's hope Getsy doesn't turtle up against his old team and scheme up an offense like he did last week. I FINALLY saw him scheme guys open with motion and releases...haven't seen it all season until last week. Getsy finally had a good game calling plays and it helped. Fields can't do it all on his own. If Getsy asks everyone to win all on their own again, like he's done a majority of the season, my blood will be boiling.

Thats the key JABF!!! Any QB...I don't care who they are needs support to perform their best. They cannot do it all on their own. At a base level they need talent...if they have good coaching it doesn't need to be the BEST talent...but it needs to be better than JAG level. Take a look at Jordan Love. The Packers don't have ELITE talent at the receiver position...but they go 4 deep with GOOD players. DJ Moore is better than any receiver they have...but after that, we don't have a guy players 2 through 4 who is as good as Doubs, Reed, or Wicks. We just don't. We've got a shell of Darnell Mooney, Tyler Scott dropping passes all over the joint, and Velus Jones. Kmet is better than Luke Musgrave...but Tucker Kraft is better than Tonyan.
I was thinking about this this morning about how we expect Fields to perform like a top 5 QB, but he doesn't have that kind of talent or coaching surrounding him. Tua wasn't the top passing QB in the league until he got Tyreek, Waddle and McDaniels calling plays. Before that the owner was breaking rules to try and get Brady. Hurts wasn't the Hurts we know until he got AJ Brown and Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert and good play calling...on and on I could go with examples. Hell, Brock Purdy is like the 5th best player on that offense in San Fran, with a GENIUS play caller/designer. He'd be a shell of that any where else. People keep on talking about looking at the TOTAL PICTURE when it comes to Fields...but you're really not. You're looking at TOTAL STATS...thats NOT the total picture.

Getsy's scheme week 1 was a fireable offense. He better be WAYYYYYYYY better than that on Sunday. I truly believe that Getsy's job is on the line this weekend. Flus and Fields may survive a crapfest but no way Getsy does. I've notice Flus' language toward Getsy has been a bit cool lately. He's definitely on hot seat. Frank Reich is available and he's a more experienced coach and QB guru that Getsy is. Luke was just Aaron Rodgers' personal assistant before.

Saw this in Fishbains Q & A in the Athletic today in regards to winning with a QB on a rookie deal: "Since the rookie wage scale was implemented in 2011, Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes are the only QB's to win the Super Bowl while on rookie contracts."

When you look at this seasons standings, "top tier QB"s are not killing it, nor are those teams leading..
