I like your idea of Newton with that 2nd pick after landing MHJ with the first. It sure looks like Poles could do a teeny tiny tradedown with that 1st pick and get MHJ and Newton - and then pick up a C and another WR in a draft that is very decent at C candidates and loaded with WR talent. I'm not saying it would be easy to do that but it sure seems possible.
That is what we want, but Poles never does what I want. He prefers quantity over quality in the draft. He passed on both the offensive and defensive rookies of the year in 2023.
I think last year was a year where the roster was so empty after the teardown that he pretty much had to go quantity over quality. But this second year is different. We do need high-end playmakers and Poles knows that. This year he has fewer (critical) needs on the roster. This is the year to swing for the fences on a stud WR. The C in this years draft could easily be drafted with our existing 3rd round pick. The top 3 centers... really the top 4, are on the same tier as far as talent. All will go in the 2nd and 3rd round this year and we can get our guy in the 3rd. A rock solid C there. Some years positions are feast or famine. This year at WR and C it is a feast year.

Let's assume that we're keeping Fields and drafting Harrison with our first pick, there's NO WAY I'd select another WR at 9. We have way too many holes to fill. In fact I wouldn't even use a mid round pick for a slot receiver.
The D certainly got better once Eberflus took over the play calling and honestly that was one of the few highlights of the season, but let's not pretend that this side of the ball does not need lots of fixing. We better take the best pass rusher available at 9. Sweat can't do it all by himself.

I hope you’re right, but I have a hunch he rather have two first-round picks in 2025 than Harrison. Fields loses again.

The Bears won't draft back to back WRs. Zero chance of that happening. But as you point out, they could get a WR3 outside of that first round - and in this particular draft they could get a very very good one. Or, with the FA money they have available they could bring in a quality WR3... and it may even make more sense to only have one rookie WR this season paired with DJ and another veteran (high quality veteran) WR. There is more than one way to get this done, and done in a fantastic way - the offense should be so much improved with a solid coordinator and upgrades at WR and OL. It just looks soooooooooooooo doable.
I know I'm not the popular voice on this, but I like keeping Eberflus and Fields. I think that if they do go with Fields and use those draft picks to load some stellar talent to the offense, that this team will be a playoff team this year. No more tearing it all down. This time let's build. I'm tired of the teardown stuff.

The heck of it is, if they could do a tiny tradedown they can get that first rnd pick in 2025 and also get MHJ. But only if they trade with Washington or the Pats... and that would take a scenario where one of those two wanted the #1 QB in the draft so badly they would be willing to do a trade like that. Teams lose their minds over drafting a QB1 and do stupid things all the time. LOL, it's not just a "Bears thing" to do it. Or heck, I'm fine if they DID spend that #1 pick on MHJ. I think that highly of him. A viable Plan-B would be to trade down and grab Nabers or Odunze... Nabers in particular is a crazy lethal WR too. Odunze would be incredible paired with D.J. Moore. Yeah, they are not my #1 want at WR but I'd still be mighty happy with either of those other two guys.

There is a large gap from Harrison to the other WRs. They are very good. He is Randy Moss 2.0.
According to the sacred chart, Commanders/Pats would have to have idiot owner/GM to give up first round 2025 just to move up 1 or 2 spots. Poles found his idiots last year, so I suppose anything is possible.
Hell... the dud(e left off on purpose) may use our first pick on D. But hopefully, he will just be blowing in Poles ear and Poles will do what he thinks is best. I would also like to see Harrison. Somehow, I think he trades down and we don't get him
You are right. He said today that he has no regrets about not drafting CJ Stroud. I just about threw something at my TV, and thought “Are you F’ing kidding me?” But after I calmed down, I reminded myself that I am giving Poles to 2025 to get Super Bowl ready with what he’s doing.
There's a legit point there in this context:
It was perfectly understandable why Poles passed on a QB last April. Fields hadn't been given a proper evaluation the prior two years. We all know why. He was deserving of a good look with a better receiver group and a 2nd year in the same system.
But you're right he did choose to pass. Said he "needed to be blown away" and apparently wasn't. He should have been. His evaluation of Stroud was off the mark if he wasn't. No question that if he had the ability to rewind the clock, he would have drafted Stroud and traded Fields. He won OROY, threw for 4100 yards, 23 TDs, and only 5 INTs, and took his team to the playoffs. And his team was just as bad in 2022 as the Bears were and didn't acquire DJ Moore in the following offseason so don't tell me he had a cast of All-Pros around him.
With the above in very recent memory, he now has the #1 pick AGAIN, practically unprecedented in NFL history, and you can bet your bottom dollar there's at least one QB in this upcoming draft that will end up being a stud.
Is he gonna pass again? Is he gonna miss out again?

No way
We are drafting Caleb. I'm sure of it.
To then having Flus and new lame duck OC to ruin him...

This franchise never learns.
That very well could happen. The process is FUBAR.
But Poles is done with Fields. He's not tied to him and he certainly isn't going to be dragged down with him. He's not gonna pass on a 2nd chance he was gifted by Carolina.
The new OC (whoever it ends up being) is not for Justin. He's for Caleb. Justin will be traded before or during the draft.

I don't really have much faith in Poles anymore after not cutting Flus. No OC will want to touch this job knowing that the HC may be gone next year if he has a similar record. This is Poles all in year now for me. If I don't see a playoff team next year. He needs to be fired.
