Wright would be up first, and so far he's trending to someone who should get an extension.
I wouldn’t bet on it. 7 sacks allowed, 10 penalties, 61 PFF (Brax was 74 his rookie year.) Brax playing better than him this year, too, Browns game notwithstanding. It is not yet clear that other Jones (Dawand and Broderick) aren’t also better than Wright. Cross did not play up to his #9 draft position, either.
I 100% believe Wright will be one of the best Tackles in the NFL for many years to come. Most OL struggle if they start that rookie season. The learning curve is steep. Wright is going to be night and day better than Braxton Jones by next season. He does need to improve his footwork and technique (Brax is saying the same about himself, regarding this season and he is no longer a rookie). I don't claim to be an expert at all. But that is the unit I focus on every single season - and not just the Bears. I enjoy watching the guys at work in the trenches in every game. I love it. Wright has elite talent. Yes, even his footwork will be fine... he is really a freak athlete as far as power/speed/quickness, but he is rough right now and a work in progress. His ceiling is crazy high compared to Braxton Jones and I really like Brax. But he simply does not possess the elite raw talent that Wright has.

Speed rushers beat him. Time doesn’t cure slow feet. Brax’s problem is fixable in the weight room, and he’s made progress this year.

I mean I guess if I cared about what PFF says that would mean something to me. I would bet on it, especially if Poles is still here.

Speed rushers generally beat most people when they get a good jump on the edge. Garrett ate Brax's lunch with both speed and power. I saw only 1 time Wright got beat outside by Garrett and Garrett almost looked offsides with the way he timed up the snap. Crosby is a speed rusher too...how'd Wright do with him? Bosa and Mack are speed rushers...how'd they do against Wright? How about Sweat and Chase Young? Sweat probably did the best out of all the guys I mentioned, but even he struggled to get by Wright more often than not when he was 1 on 1 with him. Also, "slow feet" are curable too to a point.
Wright, like Brax needs to refine technique. His biggest problems from what I've seen come when he's in bad positions or too high.

Agree and I’d toss that he had a lot of instability next to him a guard that certainly impacted his development.

This has very little to do with PFF. His stats on penalties, sacks, pressure rates are lower than other top rookie tackles. But never mind that. ESPN Analytics rates tackles on pass block win rates defined as holding your pass blocks for 2.5 seconds or longer. Brax is one of the best in the NFL at 92%. The league lead is 95%. Wright doesn’t make the top 20.
Garrett eats everybody’s lunch. He rates #2 in win rate. I said last week that Brax would need help with him. Blasingame and Kmet were not much “help” in this game. Even so, Garrett had 2 tackles, 6 pressures, and zero sacks. Look at his game log for 2023, and this was about an average game for Garrett with +2 on pressures but no sacks. He has 13 sacks this year.

I don't think he has slow feet. Yes, like Brax, he has been beat too often this year. Both need to work on their game. And they will improve. Wright is an incredible athlete as far as quickness/speed/power.

Actually Kmet was pretty good IMO. The film is the film.

He leads rookie tackles in sacks allowed by a wide margin, and it’s not because he’s getting bull rushed. He’s too big and strong for that. The speed rushers just blow past him and get the sack or draw a holding flag. It is not a matter of learning a new technique. It’s just slow reaction.
Brax gave up only one sack this year, and it was immediately after getting a false start. He was trying too hard to avoid another false start and was slow getting out of his stance. On the other hand, he still needs more strength training so they can’t push him straight back. He’s much better this year, but not yet where he needs to be.
Swift has an all-22 YouTube video comparing Brax and Wright. I recommend it.
