Thanks Shark...it was time consuming...but I enjoyed it, when I wasn't getting pissed off about something the o-line did! LOL
Thats a pretty good order with 1 and 2 being far and away the biggest issues. In my opinion #1 led to #3 and #4 in some ways...as did #2. So 3 and 4 are way lower on the scale. The o-line was BAD...specifically Patrick, and Jones may have had his worst game this year.
That's more or less the entire Luke Getsy tenure here. And pretty much the OL performance these two years also. And I'd throw in that our once dominant running game is not what it was.
Yeah, the run game was not great. Herbert doesn't seem to have the same juice as he did prior to injury, which makes sense. There's always a performance dip post injury. Same with Foreman. I actually would have liked to see Velus get more backfield work in this game and going forward. He could become a poor mans Cordarelle Patterson.
***Heard this on CHGO and I think this too…if Bears trade Fields and draft Caleb/Maye, they better be ELITE FRIGGEN QB’s!!!
+1 There may not be a QB in this draft who is as good as the one we already have. If the Bears do draft one of them I hope they are great here. If Fields goes to the right team I think he will be one of the top QB1s in the NFL. I feel bad that the guy had to come to the Bears. I really do.
I agree JABF. I have been staunch in my belief thats Fields is a QB you can win with and because of if the offense were called catering to his unique strengths and abilities. That has not changed at all. It makes me sad that it may not be here, because Fields is everything you want as the figure head of a team, he's everything you want as a teammate, and he's everything you want as a leader. If the Bears move on from him, I will be sad. I trust Poles and I'll get on board, but I'll be sad.
Williams/Maye are going to be under INTENSE pressure, not just from fans and media, but from the guys in the locker room as well. Fields teammates LOVE him, and a rookie QB is going to have to win them over. Think about when Cedric Benson replaced Thomas Jones, and how the guys in the locker room felt and how they treated Cedric. I think it will be like that times 5 with Fields. Thats something Poles has to consider too! How could that move affect a locker room that should be ready to compete for the playoffs next season? As I said in another post...I'm just glad I don't have to make these calls.
Not great, but not the worst offensive lineman that day.
I thought #94 Tomlinson was just physically overpowering Davis, especially on all those goal line plays where Getsy was trying to pound it in from the 1-yd. line. Browns had 3 consecutive penalties there. You can say what you want about our tackles, but the middle of the offensive line remains the weakest, so that’s naturally where Getsy tried to run the ball. I’m fine with Jenkins, Brax, and Wright. Patrick must go, and Davis has been meh (at best) most of the season.
The whole line really got very little to no push in the run game. Like I said, Davis wasn't great, but IMO he wasn't the worst lineman that day. And Patricks play impacts both Davis and Jenkins/Whitehairs play too. Patrick definitely has to go. I think a competent center has a multiplying effect on the guards in terms of their play.

+1 My hope is that the Bears don't blow a top 1st round draft pick on a position we may not even need... and could end up with a bust. If the Bears can't figure out how to win with Justin Fields then they are the problem. Not Fields. It is like they have done pretty much everything to make his transition to the NFL fail. I get it. They don't intentionally do these things. They simply have no clue as to how to build an offense, and develop a QB1. So very very sad.

I am so hoping they draft an absolute stud at C who will elevate the play of the IOL guys. A "multiplier" instead of being the guy who drags down the interior play.

Many people predict Poles will trade away the #1 pick again for a so-called “haul.” That would likely get a second round pick to draft a center. Swifty makes the point that for the last 23 years only 4 Bears first round picks got extensions after their rookie contract expired, and Urlacher was the only one of the 4 that worked out long-term. Harrison will be the next if Poles doesn’t trade him away.

The more I read up on the top centers in this upcoming draft, the more it looks like there are 3 or 4 very special talents available. Rarely will a C go in the 1st round. And there is no way 3 or 4 centers get drafted in the 2nd round. So, I think the Bears can get their guy with that high 3rd round pick. It sure seems like the top 3 guys in this years draft are pretty much on the same tier as far as talent (not like one guy is in a higher tier group). It could be a GREAT year to be drafting a C. Last year's group wasn't so good, to be honest.

Wright would be up first, and so far he's trending to someone who should get an extension.

I wouldn’t bet on it. 7 sacks allowed, 10 penalties, 61 PFF (Brax was 74 his rookie year.) Brax playing better than him this year, too, Browns game notwithstanding. It is not yet clear that other Jones (Dawand and Broderick) aren’t also better than Wright. Cross did not play up to his #9 draft position, either.

I just saw a mock draft where Poles drafts Auburn cornerback D.J.James in third round to replace Stevenson. Two centers were drafted second round. They must be figuring Poles will do another Patrick thing and bring in a veteran free agent center.
