I keep flipping on what I want to see happen this off-season. Every time I figure it out something changes my thought process.
First I would like to see Flus as a Def. Coordinator, not the Head Coach. Even if you ignore last season with all the cuts and potential flop for #1 pick this season he has not been able to help Fields progress to where question did not exist on his future. The dismissal of 2 coaches for Conduct occurred on his watch with people he chose. If the DC did not get fired this defense would probably still be struggling, thus I do not see Flus as a Head Coach.
Luke Getsy does not seem to make the offense friendly to Justin Fields skills. His play calling has lead to 3 collapses in 4th quarter this year by strictly running the ball trying to manage the clock and not the game. As convinced as I am that Getsy is part of the problem, I worry making Fields learn a new offense will hinder his growth and bring us to a new contract with nothing new known about his ability.
The biggest is Fields in my opinion. I believe he has improved, he still hangs onto the ball longer than he should but not that long ago the NFL gave young QBs time to adapt. Peyton Manning was terrible his first year and average at best year 2. Depending on Nagy time this is somewhat year 2 even though it's year 3. I watched several USC games this year and am not convinced Caleb Williams is better than Fields. I wanted to keep Fields but listening to Hoge and Jahns I am buying more into the all or nothing strategy. They either all go or all stay. Expecting the offense to learn a new system and look good doesn't seem reasonable.
Keeping Fields and saddling new staff with QB not of their choice would be like Cutler Era all over. Unless new Head coach begs for Fields and understands this will be looked at the same as a draft pick then...... I am leaning towards they all need to go.
I would bring in a new OC and keep Fields and Eberflus. I know that is an unpopular stance. But I really feel like this team could be amazing next season if the Bears draft a stud WR (MHJ) to pair with DJ and Kmet. Get an elite DL guy to pair with Sweat. Why blow everything up, again? The Bears have invested 2 years into Poles and Eberflus. Yes, they both have made mistakes. But I figure they are young/new to their positions and there is a learning curve to climb here. And two years is a short time to turn around a team that was nuked last season. If we invest the time in these guys I believe there will be a good return on that investment. I'm tired of the turnover and start overs. Let's ride this out with these two - and Fields.
I've been going back and forth all season too. Right now I am not real happy with flus game time decisions, but Maybe he can learn? But getsy absolutely must go. Fields may be good with a better line and receivers. I voted getsy only.

The problem will be this. How many people want the chance to be OC here on a 1 year deal? That could make or break someone's career long-term. If they keep Eberflus and Fields it's only for a year with all likelihood. My personal opinion is Fields is at his peak right now.

That's a legit concern. It would take a guy (new OC) who looks at this team - with additions we've mentioned on offense (like MHJ, DJ, Kmet and a solid upgrade at center - and Fields) and the guy 100% believes in this team... that it can be a contender in 2024. The defense is ascending and should be one of the best in the NFL next year. So, if I'm looking for my first OC gig, I'd see the 2024 Bears situation as being better than most openings. The guy will have a boatload of talent and a solid D. The team could really be special next season.

I go back and forth on all this too. One minute I want them all gone, the next I think Flus maybe saved his job with the improvement of the D and the way he's kept the locker room together and playing hard the past two years, especially last year given the obvious tank job the front office was pulling. Thats no easy feat.
I don't necessarily worry about the "new offensive system" thing as much as some do. I get the concern, but I think the benefit of getting an OC that would actually call an offense that works with Fields strengths would outweigh any negative from learning a new system. By the way...that should be a concern even if we move on from Fields...I have NO FAITH that Getsy would call an offense that would take advantage of Williams abilities. At the VERY LEAST I want Getsy out of here...I'm almost 100% certain of that, and it would take a miracle to change my mind.
If Flus is kept some people have mentioned Reich as an OC candidate...and I could see that, and I think he'd probably do a good job bringing his west coast scheme here and getting to work with DJ, Kmet, and the added pieces we draft. I don't know man...I'm just glad its not my decision to make.
