Oh...and I think this may give some insight into how the Bears potentially feel about Fields. This will no doubt improve this team, potentially making their pick worse.
That's a good point. I'm hoping Fields can come back and prove to be the guy. I'm also hoping Braxton Jones can do the same thing at LT. Those two things happening would be a huge help. In fact if the team can turn it around in these final 9 games we will see everyone stay - QB1, HC and GM - and Getsy too if Fields and the offense come on strong in these 9 games.
The positive would be that the team could focus on other positions of need instead of QB and LT. And there would be 100% continuity. Nobody leaves. Everybody keeps their jobs. These 9 games are pretty important. Nothing is set in stone yet.
It's like Poles doesn't like high 2nd round picks.
I think it's more of Eberflus wanting another toy for his D toy box.
Eberflus should stop trying to feather another coaches's nest. The Bears had to trade a top 5 2nd rounder for this guy with half a season left, but if they trade J Johnson, they would get a 5th rounder for him and have to give back a 7th.
As far as the other side, the only argument i like against the move is that that 2nd rounder would come with a much much much smaller contract than Sweat is going to get.
On the Score they were talking about how the Bears have given Sweat a lot of power to get overpaid now. Sweat is only under contract for 9 more games, unless the Bears are willing to deal with this as just a 9-game signing and/or franchise tag to prolong it temporarily. They were saying it would have made better sense if the Bears had a deal in place here for a long term contract. Without that leverage, Sweat gains a LOT of leverage over the Bears now. Otherwise that (very high) 2nd round pick could have brought in a guy on a rookie contract deal.

If Poles just gave Washington a 2nd rounder without a long term contract in place. He needs to be fired now. Would of been smarter to just wait for him to go into FA and do a bidding war while keeping that 2nd rounder for a really good Guard or Center.

Score's been working overtime to get the ragebait going. They know full well and good if there is or isn't a contract, and by reports already when he passes his physical they'll be getting it worked out.

I've got to believe they have some kind of agreement with him and his agent already... unless they are total idiots.

These kind of trades don't happen unless there was some contract discussion with Sweat and his agent. (Usually, I don't know that that happened here and no one knows if it didn't.) Talk shows hosts are talking out of their cans here. Sweat has no power, and the power he does have ends once he's tagged. Then the Bears hold all the leverage.

no doubt before they made the trade official w/DC they got permission to check w/the agent to make sure a deal could get done. this type of trade isn't uncommon, and i cannot think of any instance where the player w/out another year on the contract gets traded and doesn't get extended.
