we have 2 picks, likely in the top 5, nothing stops you from getting a qb and trading back.
You missed the point. Trading back will cost you Marvin Harrison Jr or Olumuyiwa Fashanu. Quantity does not mean quality at the end of the day.
You don't know who, what or when anyone will go right now, nor do you know who the Bears would be interested in targeting. MHJr and OFash aren't the only 2 players in the top 5-10 worth taking in the top 5-10. Bears can get quality and quantity.
Did the Bears get Carter last year after trading back, no, where they targeting him, no. Did they get 2 quality players instead of getting Carter, yes. Not getting the best player doesn't mean you got worse.
Isn't that better then Chase Young who has an injury history? Seems the Bears got the better of the 2 players. And we aren't talking about Mack/Bosa type players that will break a teams cap space. Seems he can get after the qb but it's not all he does. some pd'd and stuffs also. Might be what Flus needs.
Could see them trading back w/1 of those 2 firsts to get more stockpiles of picks in the 1st and 2nd. Could also trade JJ for a 2nd also.
Yeah, between Young and Sweat, MS is a little older but more proven and healthier. Young is a few years younger, maybe has a higher potential ceiling, but has big medical risk. CY was a stud as a rookie, then hasn't done anything until just recently this season.
Classic risk/reward conundrum there.
I can't blame Poles for making this move. Obviously, this deal includes a contract extension so everybody calm down. No way it's just about NOW.
Bears need pass rush so fkn bad. Like a man dying of thirst needs a bottle of water.
It a premium position and the upcoming draft class at DE reputedly blows. It makes a lotta sense.
But I'm still gonna pissed at Poles if he lets JJ go. You NEED TO KEEP GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS.

Carter had character and work ethic issues. That's understandable to not draft someone when your team is a mess. The two I listed don't and are both huge upgrades on offense. We haven't gotten quality and quantity yet.
Are you willing to pass up a top 5 WR in the NFL for 2-3 average starters? I wouldn't be. Blue chip players are who you build around.
Can they get a second for JJ? Maybe they think they can and this drove the trade? A swap of Sweat for Johnson (minus the new contract for Sweat?)
Lets say JJ is wanting 18-20, top 5 or just under top 5 contract money. And instead they pay Sweat 18-22mil, which would be top 5-10 DE money. Is that a better value for the Bears?
Feels like it. And again they don't HAVE to trade JJ, it's possible they FT him, or work out a deal to keep him.

Not exactly rocket science here.
Again depends on what JJ is asking for. Is he worth 18-20(top 5 CB) mil when he's not shown an ability to be healthy? When 18-22 mil pays Sweat top 5-10 DE money?
Could it be, Chic and JJ/agent need to see what other teams would pay him? Again I don't see why the Bears have to trade him, they can FT him for 19mil, he's playing for 19mil. Unless some team blows them away I just don't see them trading JJ.
Sweat at 27 for a 2nd feels like a better option; and I think shows that DC wasn't going to take a 3rd for either of their DE's. I think he fits what Flus wants also, b/c he's obviously not a dedicated pass rusher, he's not getting 10-16 sacks a year, he's getting passes defended and stuffs also. Seems like a guy that can be a total package over just a pass rusher; and possibly means not having to pay him top dollar.

doesn't matter, he was still, twice, the top quality player in the draft when the Bears picked.
You don't need a top 5 WR to win, we already have a top 10, and what makes you think it's top 5 or, average? You have 6-7 Wr's currently mocked to be taken in the first round. And right now, those first round picks last year are getting worked by a "average projected starter" this year.
The team needs an OL, another WR or 2 that can be a threat and force single coverage on DJ or the def risk getting cooked, an OG and OC and a TE. OG/OC/TE can all be done in the 2nd-4th rounds. legit starting WR's can be had in the 2nd and 3rd rds. It's one of the most drafted positions in the league.
It's like Poles doesn't like high 2nd round picks.
Sweat is a good player with better health.
Name a player in the 2nd we could get that could be as good as sweat.
Absolutely agree, this is a real good trade on paper. ONLY thing important is IF we have an extension in place, if not... Hes only 27, so we can get full 4y contract from him on highest level.
DC couldn't keep all 4 DL and all are coming up for an extension, and they likely aren't done. Sweat is scene as a better overall player then Young, if not a better pass rusher. Flus doesn't need a premium pass rusher, he needs a guy that can set the edge, then pass rush(think Floyd when Mack was here). Thats what it sounds like Sweat does. does his primary job, then gets after the qb, not just get after the qb.

Yeah, looking at the OTC table they don't differentiate between edge rusher & DE's so there is a lot of room for discussion on the value of a player's skills with regards to their own scheme & position. Sweat probably comes in at about a top level DE who gets after the QB, but is also a very plus run defender. I don't know, maybe 18-21M per year over 4 years?

I'm guessing 20+ mil, just not sure how high it goes.
