Name a player in the 2nd we could get that could be as good as sweat.
Probably couldn't, but he was taken at the bottom of the 1st. It's not far off from the 2nd. It's a good price to pay for a good, healthy player. If they extend him(and Poles better) it's flat stealing a player from a team w/a bad cap situation b/c Poles made sure he wasn't in that position himself. Not bad for a young GM still very much learning on the job.
I don't disagree, in fact this was one of Poles few smart moves. There is no DE in this years draft in the high 2nd rounds that is as talented as Sweat.
Isn't that better then Chase Young who has an injury history? Seems the Bears got the better of the 2 players. And we aren't talking about Mack/Bosa type players that will break a teams cap space. Seems he can get after the qb but it's not all he does. some pd'd and stuffs also. Might be what Flus needs.
Could see them trading back w/1 of those 2 firsts to get more stockpiles of picks in the 1st and 2nd. Could also trade JJ for a 2nd also.
I argue Young has a better ceiling than sweat but I'm not going to complain about getting the healthier option.
Trading back is one of the worse things the Bears can do with those 1st round picks. We need talent period...
If you need better talent, you need more picks to get it. If you have 2 top 5 picks, you can trade back 1, still be around the top 10, and get a 2nd and future picks. The team isn't just lacking top end talent, it's lacking starting quality talent. It needs multiple WR's another TE an OC, likely DT OG and OT help and possibly CB/S help. The DB's we have that are good cannot stay healthy.

I mean it would be a no brainer to extend Sweat but it begs the question why trade Johnson who is 3 years younger? I think there were some rumors he wanted top 5 DB money and maybe Poles only valued him in the top 10-15 range? Strange way to reshuffle the deck but I would rather keep good talent and adjust the scheme to play to their strengths.

We also need a QB which is going to be a top 5 pick. Then we need either a LT or WR. Both are going to be top 5 picks. Are we willing to give up blue chip players for rotational players to good players at best? With the way Poles handle the 2022 draft and not getting Pickens. He really needs to go after a guy like Marvin Harrison Jr now. The new QB needs more to throw to than just DJ Moore. We also need a new qb on a 4 year rookie contract. Fields isn't the guy. Wish he was but that's just not the case. So we have to waste another pick on a QB.
You can't just have average starters to build a team. You need blue chip players to build a team around. Don't get me wrong, Montez Sweat is a great player but he's not a 10+ sack season player. Bosa, Mack, and etc... We need a top 5 position players.

I don't believe they will trade Johnson. JJ asked for the trade, they said go find someone, that doesn't mean they'll agree to the terms. It could just mean, go find out what they'd extend you for and we'll see if we want to match it. Even if they don't they don't have to agree to the trade. They can FT him if nothing resolves. I think JJ is staying here for at least 1 more year.

we have 2 picks, likely in the top 5, nothing stops you from getting a qb and trading back. Also there is nothing saying they'll feel the need to take the top qb, especially if he doesn't want to play for the Bears, or has similar issues as the current qb(fields). The Best qb's seem to not be the first picked, as if maybe the team drafting tops overall is so fundamentally flawed a qb cannot develop, let alone save the team.

You missed the point. Trading back will cost you Marvin Harrison Jr or Olumuyiwa Fashanu. Quantity does not mean quality at the end of the day.
